First off let's ASSUME that this plan is anything like it is being described (because it would suprise none of us if it really was nothing like this at all)

Bush Stimulus Plan Includes $1,600 Rebate, People Say
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=auNopGrG0xcY&refer=home

Jan. 17 (Bloomberg) -- The Bush administration is close to completing an economic-stimulus proposal that will include $800 rebates for individuals and $1,600 for households as well as tax breaks for businesses, people familiar with the plan said

Well let's see.... right after 9/11 the idea was to do something to help the economy (even though the GDP went UP that quarter as it turned out) so the Bush crowd was screaming for tax cuts for the rich and to offset the tax cuts to the middle class until the next year. The Dems, in about the last showing of spine they would have, said NO $300 a person NOW. Bush relented when the polls told him to and of course he took credit for it and that was cemented in history by the corporate press.

Now it looks like the supply siders got the message again but as stated in the ASSUMPTION above don't be surprised if they get every talking head telling us one thing and then try to slip another top heavy tax cut through Congress.

1. They're trying to buy off the people who are getting more and more
pissed off at their economic policies. It didn't work in 2001, and it will be even less popular now. Maybe $1600 PER MONTH would make up for the higher paying job that was lost but a one time payment - nah.

Mine's going directly to the campaign of whoever the Dems nominate to run for president.

4. You got it. An election year bribe.
I'm astonished at the Bush handout plan. He has been handing it out to oil companies, the wealthy, and Iraq for years but has all but ignored the middle class and poor. Now he's back...working on his legacy.

3. He cares more about his party than he does the American people
Bush...has decided the U.S. needs short-term economic assistance from the government to avert an election-year recession, White House officials said earlier today. (Emphasis added.)

If it weren't an election year I doubt seriously he'd give a shit about it.
