Because the dealer feels sorry for the poor fool standing there shaking and shivering, drooling snot and bodily fluids every where, begging for just a little taste.
The amerikan consumer is a junkie, a credit junkie with no thought of tomorrow, they just have to have another dollar to spend NOW. With refinancing, rolling over mortages dead and gone and jawbone george* is the friendly neighborhood pusher with the fix.
It's time to get off the damn sauce, say no thank you and get into rehab for real.

1. That's the best analogy ever!
Hey, do you know anyone who could get out of Bush Debt
with $800?

Me, either.

4. Yes & no. Remember, our Prez TOLD us to GO SHOPPING!
I agree that people have been groomed to a "get it now-pay for it later" mentality, but I can't blame them alone! I grew up before there was a master card or visa, and I haven't forgotten what it was like when you just didn't buy stuff if you didn't have the cash! Most people today have no idea what that's like, and it's the fault of the CC companies, banks, retailers, parents, AND our gov't!

Your analagy of giving a hit to junkie is a good one, but like in rehab, they don't just cut you off! Perhapse you could look at this infusion as a methadone treatment...as long as they make it clear that there will be only ONE!

5. It's just delaying the inevitable
Sooner or later the well is going to be bonedry, this little pittance is not going to get anyone healthy or out of debt, it's going to make withdrawal just a wee bit easier.
