Snow in upstate SC on GOP primary day (tomorrow).

Unless the Bob Jones fundies can pray it away, they are forecasting 1"-3". That shuts things down around here. If the fundies sit home in front of the fire, Huckleberry might be in trouble.

2. If 3" fall, NOBODY will go to the polls. I used to live in Greenville, and
I would guss that today everybody is raiding the stores to buy milk and toilet paper! Three inches of snow would absolutely shut the place down!

4. Is the milk that bad there?
Maybe if they just melted the snow and boiled it before drinking, they wouldn't need so much toilet paper.

8. I never did figure out why they always horded toilet paper.
I moved to SC from Pennsylvania in Sept. 1987, and in January the Greenville area got 19"+ of snow! It was still on the roads 10 days later!

When the forcast was first issued that they were going to get snow, everybody paniced! I was amazed at all that because I had grown up with snow & ice. You just made sure you had your boots & gloves and put a good set of winter tires on your car every year. After it was all over and we went back to work, I asked quite a few people "Why does everyone hord toilet paper? I understand milk because it doesn't keep too long, but TOILET PAPER???" I've never gotten a reasonable answer.

10. Reminds me of 1" of snow in Atlanta
Sherman did less damage when he burned the place down.

14. I live just north of Atlanta now, and SC is worse. The main reason
Atlanta SEEMS worse is because there's sooo much traffic here.

5. It's only the R's tomorrow.
Is there a difference between their candidates based on regions (upstate vs. low country)?

11. Primaries are not like elections for public office.
It's a contest within the party, to represent the party, so the party makes the rules and chooses the date. I don't know why the Democrats and Republicans chose different dates, but it's not like they agree on anything else, so why agree here? :)

12. The SC Democratic primary is a week from tomorrow (1/26).
I don't know why they are split; nor have I lived here long enough to have much of a feel for who is helped/hurt by a poor turnout. I do know that the upstate is extremely conservative and heavy-duty religious.

And yes: the Bi-Lo will be cleaned out of milk, bread, and Charmin. I'm headed to the upscale downtown Publix to get wine, coffee beans, and organic spinach.

:P

13. It will help Huck

I think his people will be more motivated to get out, btw, they're not all "fundies". Worst of the weather ain't gonna hit 'til the afternoon, I expect there'll be heavy turnout in the morning. I get the sense that your non-Huck repubs are not too happy with the choices being served up, they're more likely to stay home.
