Poll question: Which do you think best describes Chimpy's PRIMARY reason...
Edited on Fri Jan-18-08 04:31 PM by Mr_Jefferson_24
...for his recent trip to the Middle East:

1) An effort to somehow remake his image from warmonger to peacemaker.

2) An effort to get the Saudis to help prop up the U.S. economy in order to avoid catastrophic collapse while he's still in office.

3) An effort to convince Israel that they must be the ones to initiate an attack on Iran if they want it to happen while he's still in office, as he lacks the support in the U.S. (even in the Pentagon).

4) An effort to score some good blow.

2. Chimpy's return to the states displaced a flight of troops
set to return home to Texas yesterday after an 18-month-long tour in Iraq, forcing their families to cough up the money for another night's stay so they could be there to greet them.

Way to support the troops King George.

5. Amazing. I hadn't seen that...
...the kind of thing that wouldn't bother Chimpy in the least.

6. Media hasn't covered that factoid yet, that I know of. I heard
about it from the uncle of one of the guys coming home.

Here's a kicker, the kid coming home has a baby who's over a year old that he's never seen before. And his flight gets bumped to make way for Chimpy's photo op.

4. Other
Two reasons:

1. If he travels there now and at least pretends to start peace talks. the right wing media machine can take credit for any progress in peace during the next Dem administration. They will say the progress wouldn't have happened w'out B*sh.

As it stood, with no effort over the last eight years if a Dem won the presidency and secured a peace deal in short order it would forever be obvious that B*sh's policy of giving the Israeli right wing free reign was poor policy.

2. Secure a 22 billion dollar arms deal with the Saudi's.

8. Yep, we arm both sides yet again
Afghanistan and Iraq taught us nothing.
Republicans love to poke the bee hive, like psychotic children.

9. Good considerations...
Edited on Fri Jan-18-08 06:36 PM by Mr_Jefferson_24
... I think the U.S. could, if it wanted to, put a fair peace plan in place that would be followed, simply because we (officially, perhaps not in fact) control of the purse strings to Israel's annual multi-billion dollar aid package -- for nearly half a century now, we've simply not used this rather subtantial leverage to bring about the peace.
