In our paper today, they did interviews with several people. The majority said they would pay bills, pay property taxes with one person saying they would put in their savings. Only one person said they would use it for remolding their home.
You're right on in one respect. The oil companies will get a big majority of it as I expect there are people who have huge heating bills which this may help pay down.
In the long run it will do very little if anything to boost the economy. It's like putting a band aid on a severed arm or leg.
5. Bush was going to try to capitalize on the crisis to extend his tax cuts
but he has recently said that he will treat them separately.
On the other hand, congressional republicans are still saying they are going to try to link a stimulus package to the extension, which I think is just bluster. Those tax cuts are history.
