i've been tracking my numbers. been somewhat acutely aware that a milestone was in reach. been thinking fairly long and fairly hard about what i would write when the time actually came.
time has come today. i'm blocked, damnably blocked! what can i say? i've added my two cents to the fray nine hundred, ninety-nine times before today, so why should it be so momentous - and difficult - today?
why is this post special? one reason i can think of right off the bat is that from now on i'm no longer a newbie on this board, which means, i gather, that my thoughts and opinions might be worth reading now. many times i've read posts implying that anyone with less than 1,000 posts on DU was not worthy somehow of being heard. with a quick, "oh, i see you haven't been around for long," a person's position or opinion on an issue that might have been in opposition to the older hand's was diminished or marginalized not on the merits, but because the person holding it had not amassed over one thousand posts on DU.
second reason: i figure approximately 25 to 100 times as many people will click on the link once i post this, compared to the first 999 times. it's news that i have made it to 1,000 posts on the message board that is my lifeline to the outside world, the message board that makes available to me the news that most of the country simply does not get, the message board where blessedly like-minded people write read argue and agree on issues that effect not just this country, but indeed this planet and all of the life upon it. it's news, and DU is all about the news.
extra extra read all about it. barbtries posts for the ONE THOUSANDTH TIME!
a recent thread asked how we all came to DU. i could not remember the specifics, but i know why i stay. goddammit i love this place.
okay. not the best not the worst. it's done for better or worse because i can no longer pass on responding to other posts that move me as i read DU, as i read DU daily and nearly obsessively. peace out. peace in our time. LOVE
and let's be seeing a democrat into the WH before another year goes by. amen
