George Allen’s court nominee withdraws name

In September, President Bush nominated E. Duncan Getchell, Jr. for a seat on the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Virginia. On Thursday, Getchell wrote a letter withdrawing his name from consideration and blaming the “Senate Democratic leadership.” Virginia Senators Jim Webb (D) and John Warner (R) criticized Getchell’s nomination, noting that he was not on their list of candidates, but an outdated list created former senator George Allen.
