Should the next Congress add 2 Justices to the Supreme Court?
The Court, which was already conservative, became very right wing recently.

Justices John Paul Stevens and Ruth Bader Ginsburg could retire at any time, and when they go, who will be there to act as a counter to the partisan and right wing Justices; Scalia, Thomas, Roberts, and Alito?

However, the next Congress (with a Democratic President) could add Justices to the Supreme Court. To undo the horrible changes the New Right and the Bush Administration has done to our government, and to bring some balance back to the Courts, it should be on our Party's agenda that Justices be added to the Supreme Court.

3. Not a good move.
It would be seen as a partisan attack, and we've had enough of that crap in the last 8 years.

4. I would like to see some of them forced out. If necessary and possible impeached!
Under no circumstances should Bill be appointed if Hillary is elected President.

Make sure to prosecute the Arkansas Supreme Court Justices that took away Bill's law license.

5. Focus on District Courts
It would be much easier to add new district court federal judges and judges to the US Courts of Appeal. They have an ever increasing caseload to justify the move. Plus, the S.Ct. can only hear a limited number of cases each year.

6. couldn't get it done even if it was a good idea
First, I doubt we're going to have a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. Second, its a precedent that Congress isn't going to want to set.

7. This is (one reason of many) we can't afford a McCain presidency
Assuming he's there nominee.....McCain if given the chance, would appoint FAR righties on the court...He tries to come across as this old maverick, but in reality is far right....

So as I've done in past threads on DU, I'm hoping that even if there are people here who can't stand HRC, that they will hold their nose & vote for her in November if she's our nominee.....

The Supreme Court is at stake, & I would hope Democrats realize that HRC is going to nominee much more liberal/moderate justices than A-N-Y of the Republicans - especially if we have more of a cushion in the senate as Democrats should be able to add to their 51 total...(need about 55-57 to be more comfortable, need to offset the Libermann types out there)...

9. It won't be necessary to try to pack the court...
if a progressive wins in November. There will almost certainly be two vacancies in the next four years and a progressive president can appoint liberal judges to counterbalance those reactionaries that we have on there now.
