I think we should all pitch in for a nice gift for Nancy Pelosi
I mean, I understand her reasoning behind not wanting the first order
of business of the new Democratic Congress to be impeachment, even
supported that tactic, but the decision to remove impeachment altogether
from discussion, especially in light of the fact that Cheneybush doesn't
seem to have grasped in the slightest the change in the country's political
make-up, seems now to have been premature at best. But her job is a big one,
and she obviously needs all the support she can get from us, her Democratic
constituents.

Therefore, I suggest we all pitch in and get Madam Speaker a nice gift to
remind her that decisions made in haste are sometimes possible to remedy.
I propose that everyone buy her a nice tablecloth with the word "IMPEACHMENT!"
dyed, embroidered, or simply painted onto it.

That way, impeachment will never be "off her table" again, and she will have
no trouble remembering it, in case it should slip her mind now and then.

I'm sure canvas would do for outdoor picnics, but maybe some nice Belgian
lace for more formal occasions indoors would be nice as well........

10. A Question if I could, please?
If it passed through Congress, which would not be totally impossible, how do you think that it would do through the Senate?

16. By "Congress," you mean the House, right?
In case that's correct, any impeachment process fails in the Senate. That
is a given. There is not a soul in DC that thinks otherwise, and few
elsewhere, for that matter.

But the Republicans knew this in 1998, too. The difference is that they
acted with the purpose of stalling Bill Clinton's presidency--a callous
move done for purely reasons of personal vengeance. They impeached him
for "offenses" committed by many members of the same Republican majority that
was hounding him. If Cheneybush were to be impeached, it would be for
crimes committed for which there is substantial (dare I say overwhelming?)
evidence. Plenty of prosecutors bring cases against white collar felons
they are sure they will never win. They bring them anyway if the evidence
is overwhelming that a crime has been committed. That is their job.

I'm not even saying that the Democrats in the House have to even go through
with it. I'd settle for just the gesture of saying to the country that the
crimes committed by the current administration are so evil that they can no
longer be removed from consideration for the process foreseen by our Constitution
to rectify them. The headlines on that subject alone would set the Republicans
back, and turn MSM discussion, if only briefly, to a subject of substance. Paris
and Britney might not appreciate having to take a back seat to real news for a
few weeks, but they'll get over it.

The real fun would come on the Sunday talk shows watching Hillary and Obama
squirm when asked the inevitable question--would they vote to convict if
articles of impeachment were sent to the Senate? They'd say, (of course, DUH),
"we'll have to wait to see if impeachment goes through," and "that will depend
on the evidence presented," blah, blah, blah. But it sure would be interesting!

21. Yes. I did mean the House . Sorry.
But the people were tuned against impeachment with Bill, because the process was looked upon as purely partisan--and the people knew it too, because it showed in the polls.

The only thing that bothers me is the way impeachment would be handled in this case, too. Would the people frown on what looked like to be partisan politics? The whole thing looks like a double-edged sword--it might wind up cutting you if you're not careful.

I say let Bush be Bush--with the proper checks and balances of course. Bush is the best thing for us right now, because we have better candidates than the GOP do. ;)

26. Oh, you're right on most counts, probably all, BUT.......
Just re-introducing the possibility, instead of barring it, would be
enough to focus much-deserved media attention on the failures and crimes
of the Bush administration for a while, rather than let Russert and Blitzer
continue with the steady diet of pablum that they have been feeding us so far.

It's all Republican baggage, and we don't have to lift a finger. As things
stand now, Cheneybush KNOWS there is no way they'll be impeached. If it is
again "on the table," they'll just say, naaawwww, she wouldn't, and then
whisper, or would she? And even if they don't, Russert and Blitzer will.
Just leave the possibility open. Doing that now, would have even more impact
than if she had done it a year ago. It would provide a huge dilemma for all
the Republican candidates, because they would be in a quandary as to how much
to distance themselves from Bush. As it stand now, they all know pretty much where
they want to be. A move like this would force them to answer questions they don't
want to have to answer. The sword of Damocles looked pretty menacing, even if
it wasn't about to fall down any time soon.

11. OK. How about a wooden table with Article II, Section 4 Decoupaged on the top of it?
The Constitution, Article II, Section 4:
The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

12. She needs to be asked, point blank, what it is that Bush has on her...
...or what kind of a deal she's made with that devil. Those are the only two reasons that I can think of for her intransigence.
