MSNBC: Edwards campaign is over.
"He failed to become a Bill Clinton new-Democrat and instead moved left and embraced the Daily KOS crowd."

Just "announced" by the panel of talking shitheads. They acknowledge that the entire debate has shifted to the economy now, but not once, not one time, did they mention that that's where John Edwards has been all along. Any of you people who still think the media isn't deciding this race for us, well...you're delusional.

62. Actually Bill is doing exactly what is needed. Sure his image is taking
a beating, but he has taken Obama off his game. Every minute Obama spends responding, that is one minute he is off message. The top story on ABC is the Bill and Obama war of words, not Obama's message to the voters.

There's some positioning going on but I haven't really got my mind around it to speak clearly about what is going on. Let's just say they are trying to back Obama into a corner.

72. Politics is not for the thin skinned.
I used to do something similar when I was a rural carrier associate. The regular carrier has a problem with a mail box or some other problem with a customer, I do the dirty work, I played the bad cop so the carrier can get the changes made without poisoning their relationship with their customers. "I like the carrier on our route, but her relief carrier is an asshole." Most rural carriers at my old station were women and would rather not tangle with some of the rustics on their routes.

2. This past Sunday, CNN's Howard Kurtz & guest pronounced Edwards as not worthy of news coverage
because "...it's really a two person race."
He also ran the Edwards video (about how Edwards isn't being covered by the MSM and then scoffed at the video.

it's quite blatant and telling really....the Media has already decided the race...so please follow along....

I still wake up every day...just hoping ...hoping that the mass' will take off the blinders and start accepting the fact that they have been duped...and do something about it....THE REST OF THE WORLD KNOWS IT.

"THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICAN IDOL" That is what we have here.

Please don't let the corporate elite win.

Seems like the US media all love Obama. And that's enough to worry me. A lot.

He has no experience and so presumably will be handing over the reigns at foreign policy and the economy to God knows who.

At least with Hillary you know what you might be getting and with Edwards there is the possibility of some populist economics.

With Obama there's only a dream and a pretty false one at that.

JMHO.

Edit to fix typo.

23. Here's how it's going to play out.
Edited on Mon Jan-21-08 04:15 PM by AndyA
Let's just lay it all out on the line. The Republicans want Clinton for the nominee. It's been pretty obvious all along, but they have made Obama a sensation as well.

They're going to start saying Edwards should drop out. Maybe he will, maybe he won't.

Then, they're going to pull the rug out from Mr. Obama. That Rezko deal, or some other thing they're keeping under wraps until the time is right.

Which leaves: HILLARY! TA-DA!! Here's your candidate, Democrats. Go vote for her.

And let me tell you: Republicans HATE HILLARY. HATE. HATE. HATE. They don't even refer to her by name, instead calling her "that woman." As in, "I will vote for any Republican to keep that woman out of the White House."

Suddenly, the negative stories about Hillary start. Glowing stories begin about the GOP nominee, McHuckiani, and then you toss in a little election fraud with the electronic voting, and guess what...the Republicans keep the White House.

And most Americans will never know what hit them. Congratulations, America! How does it feel to be a sheep?

Hmm? If you're supporting Clinton you're buying right into it. If you're supporting Obama, you're only slightly better off. If you're supporting any Democratic candidate who gets the heavy coverage in the corporate media, you're screwed, because their interest lies with the GOP, not with the American people. They'll pick the candidate for us whom they know they can easily take out. Now, I'm not among the crowd who thinks it's a lost cause for the Dems. I'm very confident a Democrat will be given the White House. But it will be a Corporatist, pro-war Democrat. IOW, we won't see much in the way of change. Change is bad for Corporate America.

Edwards has been polling lower than the two 'front runners' and has had nowhere near the primary numbers of the two 'front runners'. And since there's a lock down on actual, substantive facts, and analysis of platoforms and candidate positions, the only story they can tell about Edwards is the one you're hearing.

54. Chicken and egg.
Which came first, the media ignoring Edwards, or the people not knowing anything about him and therefore having no real reason to vote for him. They're covering ALL the republican candidates, even the hopeless causes like Ron Paul and Rudy Guiliani. But on the Dem side, they and they alone have determined it to be a two-person race, period. We apparently have to right to even hear the messages of the other candidates. Choose from the two WE say are "viable."

Edwards might be just as viable if the media didn't pretend he didn't exist and actually covered his policies and positions with the same American-Idol fervor they give to Clinton and Obama.

73. The did the same to Clark in the 04 cycle.
Nothing new here.

Not saying its right .... just that its nothing new.

As for polling and media .... was Edwards blacked out by Iowa media? Do the national media matter as much as the local media and local appearances? He sure spent enough time there campaigning. He ended up down by 8 points.

What about NH? He trailed by 22 and 19 points, respectively, against the other two. Again, did the national media matter as much as local media and local appearances?

Those two states are the definition of retail politics.

Aren't they?

74. Meh .... it doesn't make me feel better or worse
I don't like that he's not getting coverage, but the fact is, he isn't. He's also not the first candidate to get shit coverage. And his losses in NH and Iowa .... were his results in these two bastions of retail politics the fault of shitty national media coverage? Was the local media as shitty to him as is the national media?

67. They will continue to keep him around just enough, a two person...
race may give Obama enough coverage to take on the elites candidate. Edwards has been shoved out of it by the media but what do you expect when they completely blacked out Dennis Kucinich and his message. Not too many people around here gave a rats ass when Dennis was ignored and belittled and now its on to the next. Happens every election, what did we expect from a corrupt government?

If the media didn't have the country against each other, maybe more would have stood up when Gravel and Kucinich were shit on. Its only going to get worse in this country, much worse and I hope Americans wake up and start standing up for each other even if it doesn't affect them at that point.

No one seems to care when the issue doesn't hit their home but its coming.

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

John Edwards has been talking about the economy since day one. He's been talking about how much influence the huge mega-corporations have, and that their power must be challenged. The talking shitheads can just STFU.

I'm still voting for Edwards on Super Tuesday. Fuck the M$M.

Power and plutocracy are too important to be ruined by Democracy.

Any message that rails against corporations and the wealthy getting their way 7 million-fold over the middle and poor classes = "embracing the Daily KOS Crowd". "Commie leftist!". "Protectionist!". "SOCIALIST!!!!"

When America burns the wealthy at the stakes, are they still going to ask "WHY"?

Vote your conscience in the primaries and caucuses. Even if your candidate does not win, your vote influences the party platform. Then vote for the Democrat in the general election.

"moved Left"? "failed to become a Bill Clinton"? "embraced the Daily Kos crowd?"

You can call Edwards a lot of things, but certainly not a pandering opportunist who blows with the latest wind direction.

If he were, he would have "toned down" his message ages ago.

I consider Edwards to be a true progressive - thoughtful, no outrageous compromises, NOT a rigid idealogue.

He is what he's always been. I thought he was a great running mate for Kerry in '04.

did you see this:

Martin Luther King III urges John Edwards to stay in the race
http://www.johnedwards.com/news/20080121-mlk-iii-letter...

copy of letter:

January 20, 2008

The Honorable John E. Edwards
410 Market Street
Suite 400
Chapel Hill, NC 27516

Dear Senator Edwards:

It was good meeting with you yesterday and discussing my father’s legacy. On the day when the nation will honor my father, I wanted to follow up with a personal note.

There has been, and will continue to be, a lot of back and forth in the political arena over my father’s legacy. It is a commentary on the breadth and depth of his impact that so many people want to claim his legacy. I am concerned that we do not blur the lines and obscure the truth about what he stood for: speaking up for justice for those who have no voice.

I appreciate that on the major issues of health care, the environment, and the economy, you have framed the issues for what they are - a struggle for justice. And, you have almost single-handedly made poverty an issue in this election.

You know as well as anyone that the 37 million people living in poverty have no voice in our system. They don’t have lobbyists in Washington and they don’t get to go to lunch with members of Congress. Speaking up for them is not politically convenient. But, it is the right thing to do.

I am disturbed by how little attention the topic of economic justice has received during this campaign. I want to challenge all candidates to follow your lead, and speak up loudly and forcefully on the issue of economic justice in America.

From our conversation yesterday, I know this is personal for you. I know you know what it means to come from nothing. I know you know what it means to get the opportunities you need to build a better life. And, I know you know that injustice is alive and well in America, because millions of people will never get the same opportunities you had.

I believe that now, more than ever, we need a leader who wakes up every morning with the knowledge of that injustice in the forefront of their minds, and who knows that when we commit ourselves to a cause as a nation, we can make major strides in our own lifetimes. My father was not driven by an illusory vision of a perfect society. He was driven by the certain knowledge that when people of good faith and strong principles commit to making things better, we can change hearts, we can change minds, and we can change lives.

So, I urge you: keep going. Ignore the pundits, who think this is a horserace, not a fight for justice. My dad was a fighter. As a friend and a believer in my father’s words that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, I say to you: keep going. Keep fighting. My father would be proud.

Sincerely,

Martin L. King, III

Hearing tweety annoint Hillary from the Nevada debate just made my stomach churn. Watching MSNBC omit John Edwards from the after debate shots just pissed me off. That was it. I'm done with MSNBC for the rest of the political process.

I don't know if CNN is any better. I'll just wait and go online for my political news from here on out.
