Poll question: Surprise Deployment Check-in
Someone I'm very close to just found out that he's being deployed to Iraq in September. Again.

Only this time, they're also going to have Farsi speakers and specialists.

Anyone else with friends, family, loved ones, etc., who have been notified of late of a surprise deployment, after their unit was assured they were done?

Thanks for checking in.

- Dave

has been out since the end of the first gulf war. Got a letter two days before X-mas. will be required to report Mid april. He managed to get a 90 day delay, they originally wanted him jan 16. Last time I posted this some thought I was making it up.

3. They're sending injured soldiers back!! Somethings afoot??
Edited on Mon Jan-21-08 07:23 PM by Breeze54
Yeah! They need more bodies!! :grr:

It was reported last week that they're adding additional troops (5000?) into Afghanistan.

maybe that's why and also to relieve troops doing over time in Iraq maybe?

The war must go on! They MUST prove (Damn it!) that the 'escalation is working, don't you know?? :sarcasm:

Gotta keep stealing making $$$ for KBR & Haliburton and the oil companies!

:nuke: :grr:

and they sent him and one other guy from the company for specialized training
in NYC for CISCO (?) I don't think he'll be called up but you never know!
I won't rest until I know he's completely out... on paper, as in DD214 in hand!

15. That's fucked up, and i am sorry:(
The reason i am responding to you is i have a friend that was in the Gulf War. He is a few years older than me and joined the Marines after his parents hammered him about drug use, legal trouble, etc.

Anyway, i can't seem to get in touch with him. It's probably nothing, but i do worry after all that's been going on.

He has a two year old child that may be taking up his time, though:) That used to be a deferment, correct?

23. Iraqis speak Arabic, Iranians and some Afghanis speak Farsi
so something is up if they are sending Farsi speakers. (Afghan dialect is called Dari)

Gov. tried to recruit (Iranian) Step-Father to help with translation...he politely declined, being over 65...
