Attorneys probe deepens

The federal investigation into the firing of nine U.S. attorneys could jolt the political landscape ahead of the November elections, according to several people close to the inquiry.

Washington’s attention has been diverted from the scandal since the August resignation of Alberto Gonzales as attorney general, and has focused instead on Democrats’ efforts to hold White House officials in contempt for ignoring congressional subpoenas to testify on Capitol Hill about the firings.

But recent behind-the-scenes activity in several investigations suggests that the issue that roiled Congress in 2007 could re-emerge in the heat of the election year. Two inquiries by the House and Senate ethics committees are examining whether several congressional Republicans, including one running for the Senate this year, improperly interfered with investigations.

....................

Investigators from these offices have been questioning whether senior officials lied to Congress, violated the criminal provisions in the Hatch Act, tampered with witnesses preparing to testify to Congress, obstructed justice, took improper political considerations into account during the hiring and firing of U.S. attorneys and created widespread problems in the department’s Civil Rights Division, according to several people familiar with the investigation.

10. The maladministration's "Death by a Thousand Cuts"...
but only if the Democratic leaders of each and every committee with oversight of the various crimes committed keep investigations active and above the radar.

The sheer number and weight of their criminal acts would have ended them soon after the 2006 elections except for the interference of "can't we all just get along" Nancy and "bipartisanship" Harry.

We need to get more Democratic asses in seats in both Houses of Congress: Not DLC, moderate or corporatist Democrats, REAL Dems. The lefty, loony types we keep hearing about, those who would end our unlawful empire building, take the military (and it's budget) back to a defensive capability, nationalize medicine and invest in U.S., among other things.

11. K & R "It's the Cover-up, Stupid" would make a really good tatoo for
Bush and Cheney's foreheads, just so they all remember this stuff.

Interference in investigations is sometimes easier to rove than the crime itself.

12. Back to the top with this...
That last paragraph should read "...have been questioning WHICH senior officials lied to Congress..."

This scandal can fall out in only one of two ways:

The Executive Office of the President (Bush or Rove) directed that these attorneys be fired and replaced with authentic Bush Cronies.

- or -

Someone at DoJ, either Gonzalez or someone very close to him, conducted the firings, filled the empty slots with Bush cronies, and informed the EOP they'd done it.

Either way, this isn't something the janitor did.

13. See, this is another of those abuse/criminal-related events that went down the memory hole.
Just like the torture case, the Plame/Wilson case, the Edmonds case, the Downing Street case, etc etc etc,...all plunged into the memory hole.

At least I now know this one is still alive and that Ms. Edmonds will persist until the crimes against our nation are finally exposed.

I suppose the foregoing revive some of my hope for justice.
