because the holiday high is over, you're getting your holiday credit card bills, you're preparing for tax time, it's usually the coldest week of January and there's nothing to look forward to but spring, which is three months off.

ETA: I'm serious, I'm not making this up.

6. Not to mention the coincidence that the market is poised to crash tomorrow
and we had to watch it happen all around us today and there was nothing we could do about it here because of the holiday.

I could be wrong.

maybe winter is turning toward spring.

I think we may also have a full moon tonight too. ;)

Yup! I was right!

Jan. 21st... 1st full moon of the year!

16. sorry, I didn't mean absolute lowest. That would have been the Winter solstice
Just that the days are still pretty short, and that combined with the loss of the holiday spirit and incoming credit card bills adds up to a depressing day.

7. argh
I moved Dec 10 and Riff Raff got out Jan 5 - I cannot get the hairy little bastid to come back. I see him sometimes but he acts like he does not know me even though he lived with me two years. I see him going down the gutter sometimes. I am trying to catch him the way I did the first time - with a feral trap. :(

11. he's just always been feral to the core
I trapped him at age 7 months because it distressed me to see him - injured, hungry and no hair on his feet or the end of his tail - yet he never stopped viewing me as the wicked witch who stole him from the great outdoors. :o

12. you should see how fat Streak is now
she has gotten quite cute -- she outgrew her "crackhead kitty" look :)

I worry about my cats getting out - and they surprise me as whenever I open the door, they go the other way

too cold for them I guess :)

14. Clancy bolts sometimes
but he just runs up the nearest tree and hangs there until I get him :D

Clancy seems mighty pleased that RR gone - you can see his distress here:

15. Have you tried baiting the trap? We used to use sardines in tomato.
It worked really well, except for the occasional possum who got there first.

one time sfexpat something ate out of the trap WITHOUT TRIGGERING IT. WTF! So I added a cat toy and a bit of catnip to induce....er....more movement :o

20. A little baby mouse? It would have to be weally light! lol
Good luck! Once one of my guys got loose and was gone for months. I'd already mentally given up when the little bastid came back. Sometimes I think they do it just to mess with us. :)

22. here's the thing though
Edited on Mon Jan-21-08 10:08 PM by Skittles
I had the trap set out in front of my apartment and from my my vantage point (see the view below, past Clancy) through the bushes past the patio I could make out a cat ear in the trap - black, fuzzy, could have been RR. So I ran out the back door and around to the front but alas, since the trap had not triggered shut the occupant had bolted before I got there :o
