Don't be too impressed with Mike Huckabee's appearance in Atlanta for MLK Day
http://publicbroadcasting.net/wabe/news.newsmain?action=article&ARTICLE_ID=1214834§ionID=1

From the article: However, Huckabee's strategy may not be to pull African American votes in the state. Charles Bullock is a political science professor with the University of Georgia.

BULLOCK: Republicans can sometimes benefit to the extent that they appear to be racially tolerant not by getting black votes but by getting the votes of moderate whites who do not want to perceive to be racist.

As usual, the repubs are still pandering to their base instincts. Well, at least they're consistent. :eyes:

1. Today he'll be at a pro-life rally on the steps of the Atlanta State Capital building.

3. That is so true
I'm sure a lot of moderate whites would be uncomfortable voting for an outright racist - look at what happened to George Allen after the macaca incident, and that was in a Southern state.

6. Too many of those don't mind diversity...
as long as it doesn't move in next door or come to dinner.

4. Huckabee on changing the Constitution and teaching creationism in schools:
Second page:

"..Huckabee campaigned in Greenville this week, supporting constitutional amendments on abortion and marriage.

'I believe that it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God' he said. His audiences often yelled 'yes' and 'amen'."

http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/asection/la-na-evangelical18jan18,1,7240371.story?page=1&ctrack=1&cset=true

"Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee's run of glowing press coverage ended abruptly in Iowa on Tuesday when somebody asked him (link) if his belief in creationism extended to requiring the teaching of creationism in public schools.

The former Arkansas governor got a little testy. He said he has advocated that creative arts and math and science should be taught in schools, and no one ever asks about that. He said he doesn't understand why everyone keeps asking him about teaching creationism."

So much for any MLK Jr. Dreams of equality and freedom.
