I got a feeling that we are about to win the Iraq war
Anyone know what is going on down in the Gulf? I haven't heard any news in a long time from that area. No news is good news.
Is it almost over?

5. America accepting its role as peace keeper for the next 50 years
while Iraq becomes stable, pro west, and democratic.

The American people must believe that: 1) Removing Saddam from power has made the USA safer, and 2) A PRO west, stable, democratic Iraq is worth a 50 year commitment to peacekeeping (read - occupying) missions.

7. Oh good heavens. "Removing Saddam from power has made the USA safer."
Good luck on that. All of Bush's overblown WMD stories which proved false have done anything but convince people that Saddam was a threat to America.

2. The war is about oil.
If the oil is still there, the war ain't over.

The war will never end as long as the profiteers control our government.

8. Ah, but the war could be over...
if the proper contracts with American oil companies are signed and sealed.

13. Who's going to enforce the contracts when the Army departs?
Nobody. The Iraqis will do what they want with the oil.

That's why the Army is there. That's why Bush and the corrupt republicans want the Army there forever.

3. Well, we can declare 'victory' and start coming home in 361 days.
That appears to be the only way we'll get out of the sandbox.

Iraq seeks sharp reduction in U.S. military role

Negotiations to begin on taking American forces out of combat

BAGHDAD - The United States and Iraq will soon begin negotiating a power shift for U.S. forces, nearly five years after they invaded Iraq and installed a new government, Iraqi and U.S. officials told NBC News on Thursday.

Both countries are working on assembling negotiating teams to shape a new long-term bilateral strategic agreement redefining the fundamental role of U.S. troops, whose mission would shift from combat operations to logistics and support, the officials told NBC News’ Richard Engel.

President Bush did not address the report at an economic briefing for reporters Thursday afternoon in Washington, but Gen. David Petraeus, commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, confirmed that negotiations would begin soon. Petraeus would not provide details, but he said the U.S. role in Iraq would be changing.

Officials of both countries have said in recent weeks that they envision an eventual drawdown of U.S. military forces inside Iraq. The Iraqi officials did not provide an estimate Thursday of how many U.S. troops could be withdrawn from the country, stressing that the agreement had yet to be negotiated..." (meaning it will be "negotiated in Sept. or early Oct. of this year...wouldn't want it to appear to be too obvious, as in; ie: Reagan, and the release of the Iranian hostages).

Cheney/PNAC screwed the virgin Iraq.

These sleazes knew they would bring unknown horror to the Iraqi population -- they counted on it! (shock & awe)

They knew that al Qaeda would rush in.

Oil -- duh?

Our "elected" leaders made sure that Iraq would be dependent on "US" for decades to come.

Thanks to these sleazballs, the rape victim (which is Iraq) is now married to us (as surely as S. Korea is).

But at least Iraq has oil...

18. Where is all the war protests? Where is the debate over Iraq
The economy has put our occupation on the back burner where it will stay for 50 years.

For the record, I opposed the Iraq war because I knew that a stable, pro west, democratic Iraq was at least 50 years of hard work and American sacrifice away.

I knew this, DK knew this, Maurice Hinchey knew this. Why HRC and Edwards didn't know this is just political opportunity, imho.
