Democratic Leaders Delay Contempt Again
By Matt Renner
t r u t h o u t | Report

Thursday 24 January 2008

Nearly seven months after the House Judiciary Committee voted to hold Bush administration officials in contempt of Congress, the Democratic leadership has again delayed action on the matter.

Just two weeks ago, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi seemed prepared to bring the contempt citations against White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former White House counsel Harriet Miers to the House floor for a vote when Congress came back from their winter break this week.

The contempt citations were issued in July 2007, when Bolten and Miers refused to cooperate with the Congressional investigation into the potentially criminal firing of nine US attorneys by the Bush administration. Initially, Pelosi signaled her support for the citation of contempt, but has repeatedly delayed a vote on the matter.

According to top Democratic leaders, the effort to pass an economic stimulus package currently stands in the way of the most recent attempt to move the citations to the floor for a vote. Lawmakers are apparently apprehensive to take action that could derail bipartisan cooperation on the economic package. Pelosi's office has not set a time frame for the vote.

THIS is why I wait when the announcements of "imminent action" are made....

12. Whatever it is, it no longer even matters. All that matters is the reality.
We the people are betrayed. Betrayed by all, and betrayed not by our wonderful Constitution and Bill of Rights, our magnificent System of Checks and Balances, but from the fact that those things are being dismantled, and no more than a dozen or three Democrats (and Ron Paul, whatever else we might think of his views) are willing to defend what is left or the American People.

It no longer matters WHY Pelosi, Reid and the rest do what they do. It no longer matters by what methods and techniques that the Bushies have fufilled the dreams of the Watergate Conspirators by creating a Democratic Party that is neutralized and lacks backbone.

All that matters is what IS. This is reality. It is not going to change unless WE the People change it.

And We the People have been reporgrammed to replicate the mentality of the 1930s Germans, so no hope there.

I hope I am wrong about this, and I would never advocate anyone give up or not vote or anything like that. But reality is reality.

And reality says that Amerikan Tyranny is a done deal, a cage door just waiting for a trigger event to slam shut, and not nearly enough of our Rulers give a shit about anything else besides their own personal power, privilege, and comfort (while the Imperial Subjects slowly roast alive).

THAT is reality. And thus, Pelosi's abject capitulation is not in the least surprising or remarkable, though it still angers.

We the People have now become accustomed to not being represetnted by the Rulers who now select themselves, but put on a dog-and-pony show to keep us amused and docile.

SCHIP WOULD HAVE PASSED. :grr: I don't understand how or why she's got this notion that if she makes nice to the opposition they will work with her.

Gee, Nancy, you and your colleagues just got done saying a lot of nice things about the guy who said that. Even had a national holiday and everything. Why not honor Dr. King not just by remembering him, but emulating him as well?

21. Great point - 'truth'out either steals news items and reposts them...
...onto their website (for hits) or lies for hits (such as Jason LIEopold's fabrications about the Rove indictment). The editors of 'truth'out backed/back LIEopold.

19. Can we get actual source - not 'truth'out's stolen version?
Hi, 'Truth'out has simply reposted the item onto their website (so they can steal the hits)- can the original poster please post the source/link where the item is from?
Thank you!
