I Am a Missouri State Emplyee. A Social Worker this is a post about my Boss Matt Blunt.
"When Blunt took office in 2005, he decided Missouri couldn't afford its health care program for the poor, then known as Medicaid. About 100,000 adults below the poverty line were cut from the rolls. Most were single mothers.
Under Blunt, the number of children covered by the state has shrunk by 71,463, a decline of nearly 13 percent. A recent Post-Dispatch poll found that 57 percent of those surveyed opposed Blunt's approach to health care for the poor."

Mr. Blunt declared this week that he would not seek a second term because he said he had accomplished everything he had wanted to do in Missouri.

16. Not necessarily.
Him throwing in the towel opens the door to Republican candidates who actually have a shot at winning in November.

Were he to stay in the race, Gov. Nixon would almost be a sure thing.

18. They are talking Pete Kinder and being from his home town...
he has A LOT of skeletons in his closet, which is where he spends most of his time if you get my drift.
Trust me I have no problems with his persuasion, but he is a real hate monger when it comes to that so SUCH a HYPOCRITE!..

22. Don't get me wrong.
I'm not suggesting that the race automatically becomes competitive. I'm just saying the potential is there now that Blunt has dropped out.

9. I read in the Missouri Forum earlier this week......
that this PAB wasn't running for re-election because he will be getting into serious trouble for being unable to produce some e-mails that were sent and received on the state's e-mail accounts.

Whatever the reason, I will welcome Gov. Jay Nixon.

13. You mean he finally met his quota of dead poor people
who died because he cut off their Medicaid funds? If memory serves, I heard about some folks who were left without "frills" like oxygen because they were taken off the roles.

19. My cousin's wife is a Missouri social worker too
I'm happy to see that there are concerned citizens in that position, but based on her life philosophy, it appears some of them consider their jobs to chastise the poor for being losers.

Whether or not this is a good thing, it appears enough people in the U.S. are becoming poor to turn around this attitude.

21. I Know Some Workers like that! I can't imagine why they want the job!
Why don't they go sell tires or something?
A LOT of the clients have "issues".
Many dropped out of school at an early age.
Some are mentally ill.
ALL NEED HELP!
Tell her if she can't have a little compassion she should consider it job security!
And trust me, there but for the grace of God go many of us! One paycheck, brain injury, breakdown , stroke or early onset Alzheimer's away from sitting on the other side of that desk!
Peace!

27. "I can't imagine why they want the job!"
They weren't always that way.......the social workers that you hear blaming the poor and disadvantaged for being poor and disadvantaged are suffering from burnout.

It's a common affliction for many people in a variety of professions and the only I know of is to take a long break or sabbatical from the whatever profession the person is burned out on.

29. Burn Out Is a Problem...However some are life long Republicans who don't ...
think the programs should exist and got the job because it's a paycheck and a desk job , mostly.

But yes, the average caseworker lasts about 3-6 years according to my union guy.Low wages for a job where you often take abuse from all parties involved is really tough!
The Clients think you are with holding benefits from them or not working up the case fast enough. The Politicians don't want to fund the programs! The States go from make as many eligible as possible to make as many IN-eligible as possible depending on who is in the Governors House.
The rules and regs change on a weekly basis!
Yes , it is a tough and usually thankless job to be sure!
