Romney climbs into Florida tie with McCain at 30%; rudy911: 13%
COLUMBIA, South Carolina (Reuters) - Republican Mitt Romney climbed into a tie with John McCain three days before a critical presidential primary in Florida, according to a Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released on Sunday.

Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, wiped out a 3-point McCain advantage overnight to pull into a deadlock with the Arizona senator at 30 percent. The margin of error in the poll is 3.4 percentage points.

Romney enjoys big leads among Republican voters who describe themselves as conservative or very conservative, while McCain has an edge among Florida moderates ahead of Tuesday's primary.

They also were tied among most key demographic groups in the state. Romney held a slight edge among seniors, who make up more than a third of the sample in Florida, and among voters under 30.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee gained 4 points overnight to register 14 percent and move past former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who continued his downward slide by losing two points to 13 percent.

1. I can't understand why the Conservatives like Romney so much...
...I mean, everyone knows the guy is a total fraud who doesn't really believe in half of the stuff he says...

...oh wait, I think I just answered my own question.

Romney not really believing half of what he says.

Is less scary than

Giuliani really believing half of what he says.

Romney is a phoney, Giuliani is a fascist.

5. Romney still 'looks' OK
Forget that fact that he has the IQ of a small soap dish, he still 'looks OK'.

The hard core R's know he is an idiot and are nervous, but if they can get in an acceptable VP all will be well (by whatever means).

18. Romney is a lot of things, but he most certainly isn't stupid.
Cum laude from Harvard Law School and top 5%/Baker Scholor from Harvard Business School on a joint MBA/JD (which is abusive to do anywhere).

Even if you want to discount Harvard education somewhat, he was in a profession, private equity, where if you suck, you don't even stick around past lunch, let alone be highly successful. Private equity bosses are usually shitbags of a high order, but if they are ignorant, their entire shop will blow up and go under faster than your head can spin.

The reason Mitt comes across as shallow is that he doesn't have any true beliefs other than making money and, apparently, his Mormon faith. That makes him a general election punching bag as well as potentially very dangerous if he won the Presidency, but don't confuse it with stupidity.

Now some of his campaign decisions, such as wearing the steamroller breast suit and the Wall Street collar, those are stupid, but Mitt himself? He's pretty bright.

7. I'd prefer a Romney win to a McCain Win
I think a Romney / Obama match up is our best winning chance. Though I think Edwards, were he to get the nomination would also win handily.

I think a Romney / Clinton match up also looks good for us.

I honestly worry about McCain. Polls seem to indicate that he would be the strongest candidate they could run against our field. I know that seems ridiculous to our ears, but it worries me. And I think a McCain / Clinton match up would be the worst. I think that would turn what should be a clear cut Democratic win into a nail-biter that could be stolen.

11. I guess The Clash had it wrong when they sang:
Hear them sayin'
How you get a rude and a reckless?
Don't you be so crude and a feckless
You been drinking brew for breakfast
Rudie can't fail

So we reply
I know that my life make you nervous
But i tell you that i can't live in service
Like the doctor who was born for a purpose***
Rudie can't fail

I went to the market to realise my soul
'cause what i need i just don't have
First they curse, then they press me till i hurt
We say rudie can't fail

We hear them sayin'
Now first you must cure your temper
Then you find a job in the paper
You need someone for a saviour
Oh, rudie can't fail

We reply
Now we get a rude and a reckless
We been seen lookin' cool an' a speckless
We been drinking brew for breakfast
So rudie can't fail

Okay!
So where you wanna go today?
Hey boss man!
You're looking pretty smart
In your chicken skin suit

You think you're pretty hot
In your pork pie hat
But...rudie can't fail
Look out, look out...
Sky juice!...10 cents a bottle!

13. All the eggs in one basket
And it looks like Rudy might storm to a fourth place finish. At least he might beat Ron Paul in Florida, even though he lost to both Paul and Fred Thompson in South Carolina.

Looking at his long-term prospects, one wonders just who's going to want to pay Mr. Giuliani big fat political consulting fees when he couldn't manage his own political campaigns? Maybe he'll try the Earl Weaver route: Lousy major league baseball player, superior major league manager.
