At first, I did.

I remember asking a colleague back in 2003 if she had listened to the SOTU. She told me she could no longer look at his face or listen to his voice.

I listened to the disgust in her voice, and told her that I despised him too, but I still had to hear what he was saying.

It took me another two years to feel like her. Now I can't even listen to or look at a news clip without a visceral reaction of loathing.

I have never felt this way before. In the past, they were the opposition, people I disagreed with, in varying degrees.

Thanks for teaching me to hate, Bush*. I hope we can heal enough to get over this infection of hate and spite. I do not want to pass this along to the people I love or my daily associates.
