Cheney's Daughter Endorses Romney, Is the Fix In?
from AlterNet's PEEK:

Cheney's Daughter Endorses Romney, Is the Fix In?

Posted by Richard Blair, The All Spin Zone at 7:22 AM on January 28, 2008.

Does such an endorsement imply that the Republican Party feels that the Mittster has the least exposure to a fall whisper campaign?

Dick Cheney's daughter Liz, a GOP party stalwart, has publicly endorsed Mitt Romney. Does such an endorsement imply that the Republican Party feels that the Mittster has the least exposure to a fall whisper campaign? (The GOP needn't worry - I don't think the Dems really know how to launch such a campaign...)

...no, not that Cheney. But close...and close enough to believe that Dick Cheney's daughter, Liz, certainly knew the implications:

MIAMI (AP) -- Liz Cheney, one of Vice President Dick Cheney's daughters, has signed onto Mitt Romney's presidential campaign as a senior foreign policy adviser.

Cheney most recently worked in the State Department handling Middle East affairs.

While her father and President Bush have both vowed to remain neutral as their fellow Republicans battle it out for the GOP nomination, the endorsement is likely to be well received among conservatives...

I still don't envison Mitt Romney exciting the evangelical wing of the GOP. And frankly, there's no chance of any GOP candidate winning the general election without the support of the fringe religious right.

The more I think about it, though, the more that I see the upcoming election as more about ""whisper" campaigns than the millions that will be spent on legacy media advertising. Regardless of who the GOP and Dem nominees end up being, there's very significant undercurrents running on both sides of the aisle. And when both sides of the aisle start paying attention to each other (once the primary fights are over), that's when word of mouth campaigning (and anonymous emails and accusations) become the driver to energize the base of both sides.

So, what it comes down to is -- on both sides -- who has the most potential skeletons and who's most bullet proof to the underground accusations and 527 smear jobs. This is the primordial stew from which the next president will be chosen.

Mitt has a lot of past personal and political history that's "whisper campaign" worthy. So does Hillary. Obama, not as much. But, perhaps the Cheney endorsement signifies that the GOP (in general) feels that Mitt has the least exposure to a whisper campaign in the fall.

That, in and of itself, should be a concern to all Republicans.

1. Isn't Jeb Bush behind Mittens too?
Oh, yeah fix is in. They don't trust McCain even if it is likely they own his soul after the easy ride he got out of the Keating Five mess. McCain is being used & abused again. No sympathy for him this time out.

2. Remember when Willard gave his "religion" speech? He gave it at poppy Bush's Library.
Yes, I think that's who the BFEE has chosen.

13. Just because she's married with kids,
doesn't means she's not gay.

7. I thought the fix was in at the debate, plus Romney got the Mt. Rushmore backdrop!
Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 01:13 PM by L. Coyote
It was subtle, but only Romney had George Washington's Mt. Rushmore profile as his debate background.

The contrast was remarkable once you took notice. Did anyone else notice this subliminal messaging?

8. "Liz Cheney...senior foreign policy adviser."
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

These meatheads STILL don't get it...they just LOVE a grossly underqualified person!

(and yes, I realize she has done some window-dressing at the State Dept., and at a couple of "think" tanks...)

9. Pardon me, but just who in the hell is "Cheney's daughter?"
Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 01:19 PM by KansDem
Dick Cheney's daughter Liz, a GOP party stalwart,..

So a "party stalwart" has the same endorsement power as someone who has spent their lives in elected public service?

I can understand the importance of endorsements from established names in elected public service from both sides of the aisle, but "party stalwart" doesn't cut it for me!

BREAKING!!! "KansDem's 10-year-old son Michael, a Democratic "party stalwart" endorses..."

edited for clarity...

10. Big trouble in Bushland
because, strange as it might seem, top Florida people are bucking Jeb's choice and going for McCain. Florida is either a big fraud or the crux of what passes for a rebellion against total Bush control. It most likely is the latter. Should Romney win it will take some pretty hard dealing for them to keep it in line for the Bush candidate this fall and not be more vulnerable than ever to the Dem.

Things ARE falling apart for Bush and the realists who are not blackmailed or bought or plain stupid and afraid will make them fall apart more. No Iran war, no economic miracle to withstand a Bush recession(on that alone kiss the GOP goodnite, Irene), no clear GOP candidate of believable stature at all, very possibly no third party game plan because they do not actually control Bloomberg, no Thompson(his cancer was discovered prematurely). Yet things have not fallen completely apart. Relentless work from all sectors would be nice to drive it down to hell where it belongs.

The land in Paraguay is looking better and the plaintiff cry of "is it safe?" I hope will be responded to with wicked laughter.

11. Didn't she move over from the THOMPSON campaign? I think one can OVERTHINK this shit.
I think she is looking to stay high-viz in politics, AND she is looking for a paycheck from a campaign with deep pockets.

After all, the greedy little putz has never actually "worked" a day in her life.

12. Good grief! Who wants ANY Cheney giving Foreign Policy Advice?
Considering how much trouble Dick has caused for our country around the world--I would hope that the vast majority of voters no longer want anything to do with the Cheneys.

15. The Bush Crime Family & their supporters want Mitt.

Bush family hedges its bets for 2008
By Alexander Bolton
March 26, 2007

Much of Jeb’s inner circle has picked Romney. The list includes Sally Bradshaw, who served as Gov. Bush’s campaign manager in 1994 and 1998 and as his first gubernatorial chief of staff; Ann Herberger, who was the governor’s campaign finance director; and Mandy Fletcher, who recently headed Bush’s think tank, Foundation for Florida’s Future, and worked on his reelection. In addition, Alan Philp, Bush’s former policy director, is coordinating policy and issues for Romney.

Jeb Bush’s former lieutenant governor Toni Jennings, Al Cardenas, who served as Florida GOP chairman under Jeb, David Griffin, who headed Jeb’s second -term transition office and was the Florida Lottery Secretary, Sherri McVay, executive director of Jeb’s statewide advocacy council, and Kristy Campbell, the former governor’s press secretary, are all playing roles in Romney’s campaign.

Why? Please take your best guess.
