Speaker Nancy and Reed choose the rebuttal speaker
Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced today that Governor Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas will deliver the Democratic Address on the State of the Union following the President’s speech to Congress on Monday, January 28. Texas State Senator Leticia Van de Putte, immediate past president of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), will deliver the Spanish language address.

Governor Sebelius will deliver her speech from the Governor’s residence in Topeka, Kansas.

“Governor Sebelius is a forward-thinking, solutions-oriented Democratic leader, who has worked in a bipartisan way to create jobs, grow the economy, make historic investments in education, and make college more affordable” said Speaker Pelosi and Leader Reid. “Her record of accomplishment in Kansas is evidence of what can be achieved when leaders reach across the aisle on behalf of all Americans. Governor Sebelius epitomizes the leadership that is moving America in a New Direction.”

3. I thought she was uninspiring and a bore. I doubt if she kept even 1/8 of the audience that
Bush had and I'm being generous with my estimate.

18. she was the most boring speaker i've heard in years! my god!
i was wondering how this woman ever managed to handle herself in a campaign (and i noticed how perfectly she spoke--accent/dialect free--my daughter informs me newscasters go to eastern kansas to train to speak properly)

and then i closed my eyes and started to drift off--her repetitive "let's get to work" was more like "let's take another nap"

pelosi and reid picked her to speak? figures!

12. I thought it unexciting
unremarkable, run-of-the-mill, pedestrian, prosaic, and lackluster other
than that it was OK.

7. Did she actually say anything? I missed it.
I mean, I watched it. I saw the entire thing. But I didn't hear her say a damned word.

16. The short and skinny of her speech was, "Let's be friends and work together
and make nice-nice with the repukes after being fu@ked over by this president for the last 7 years! Let's see if we can spred our butt-cheeks even wider and take it up the @ss even further, okay?"

Not that he needs help in the speaking department.

13. The anti-Chimp
Her soft tone and call for bipartisanship was probably very calculated. It's like in martial arts - use your opponent's weaknesses to your advantage. She was being calm, intelligent, in control, and accomodating in response to Smirky's petulance and partisanship.

14. Here's a fun little experiment to try...
Take an Ambien. Drink half a mug of hot chocolate. Put Brian Eno's Discreet Music CD on and set the player to repeat it over and over. Turn out the lights and lay your head on the pillow.

My guess is that you'll fall asleep almost as fast as if you listened to Gov. Sebelius tonight.

One does not seek bipartisanship with neo-cons and neo-fascists. But this is what Gov. Sebelius has just done tonight. "New Direction," my ass. This more of the same ole same ole - and after warming it up over and over, it's starting to stink like stale queso in the microwave.

17. What would any of you propose? Attack the 70% majority
that is sick and tired of the criminals in the WH and the divisive partisan politics that are destroying our country?

If you want a fight then go after Reid and Pelosi who have caved to * every whim.

The Governer..is talking along the lines of the future....

Don't get me wrong ....pursuing criminal activity by this adminsitration will happen after the election.

I don't think there is much more she could have said..

22. There won't BE a future worth speaking of unless the neo-cons are purged
I can handle a discourse between Democrats and old-school Republicans. We can talk about bipartisanship then. But not now.

response was right out of the Obama playbook. I'm sorry but I don't feel like making nice with Rethugs at this point in time.
