As is custom in the modern era, he will likely give a final official SOTU address in writing next January. The new President will address a joint session of congress around the same time. People will THINK that the address is an official SOTU address, but it will not be. That's why last nights address was juniors seventh, not number eight. However, junior DID address a joint session of congress in February, 2001, a little over a month after taking office.

I know, it's a common mistake, made repeatably by the talking heads last night.

So go ahead an celebrate.
