Nancy Pelosi sure seemed to have a good time yucking it
up with Cheney during the SOTU last night.

One occasion that caught my eye...when Bush emphasized in his characteristically smug way the importance of making the tax cuts permanent, while the Democrats sat on their hands frowning, she was all smiles.

I don't know if it was nervous laughter or what, but she irritated me throughout the speech.

And I know that people are going to be pissed at me for stating this, but it's my honest feeling.

Really I guess, when all is said and done, politicians are politicians.

2. Why do people in authority (i.e. Dems in Congress) lend ANY
credibility to these people? It's disgusting!

4. It is a joint session of Congress, fachrissake. The Prez is INVITED.
What, you normally invite people to your house and then crap on them?

It is expected that the President of the Senate (Darth Cheney) and the Speaker of the House (Ms. Pelosi) HOST the Monkey when he comes over to tell his lies. Not shit on him, host him. It's basic protocol.

You might feel better seeing people acting like brutish asses, but that's not how civilized people function.

13. If "basic protocol" were being followed Bush WOULD NOT be president
Admittedly, he still holds the office. Any smile or applause given to this man only prods him on.
He's a criminal, plain and simple.

16. Wow, don't you know how to kill someone with kindness?
That sort of 'snubbing' behavior is a low-class and very amateurish approach. It tells your target that the target has "gotten" to you and you're annoyed by him.

Pelosi gets it. That woman likely got that lesson passed down through the generations in her family. Smile, and let the bastards wonder what you're up to...

3. She was FANTASTIC. She CROWDED the baaaastid. I enjoyed that.
If you see the video, she wasn't shrinking away from him--she made sure that she was CENTER FRAME...and HE moved over. Way to bully a bully Ms. Pelosi!!!! Brilliantly done, Madame Speaker!

History will show a woman in that chair to future generations looking at the tape, and many might not even realize that she was "the first" one day.

9. Can't you read people? I guess not. She was owning Fatboy's space.
She was 'dominating' him. The smiling and friendly chit chat ensures she appears pleasant to anyone observing. Cheney was pushed into the corner of his chair, and she was in possession of "his" space. It was priceless!

8. I enjoyed watching her read the pamphlet rather than watch him speak. LOL
(Ted Kennedy was doing that, too.) I interpreted that to mean that she was just going through the motions with this thing, and that she would not let his drama have any impact on her, you know with all his shouting and gesticulating.

12. Yes, politicians are politicians
They don't take things nearly as personally as people here do.

They work together every day - they can fight each other all day and still have a drink when the day is done.

Tip O'Neil used to go have a cocktail with Reagan pretty regularly. Ted Kennedy is very close friends with Orrin Hatch.

They'd be entirely unable to get up every morning if they held the deep disdain for the opposition that people here do.

15. MonkeyFunk does have a point.
When you get up in the social circles that Congresscritters are in, you'll find that indeed, they know when to set aside their grudges. Yes, you'll see Republicans and Democrats having beers together occasionally.

After all, sometime, maybe next year, maybe a decade from now, the divisiveness that permeates this nation today will dissipate. We'll still have our disagreements, but won't be quite at each other's throats so much. And there has to be enough comity in the halls of Congress so that when things have to get done, enough Democrats and Republicans will be on speaking terms with each other to work something out.

So yes, you'll see people crossing the aisle and talking to the other party from time to time.

18. That's true.. reminds me of Ali-Foreman, huge rivalry
inside the ring, but outside, friends. However when Ali got in the ring he still kicked the shit out of Foreman. We seem to be missing that aspect of the relationship in politics.

I read that the day Jefferson Davis resigned from Congress, there were even Congress people from Northern states that cried.
Systemic change is needed now. You either see it or you don't.
Keeping government going AT ANY COST doesn't seem like a good idea to me. Even our leaders need to be pointing out that "the emperor has no clothes on." Some are doing it - i.e. trying to forward impeachment. Otherwise we just continue on, business as usual, acting like what Bush & crew have done is just another day in democracy. It's not.

Good grief. She smiled and even lightly giggled. The Heavens are falling!
