FAUX News latest lie: Resident aliens are illegal....
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,326346,00.html

<WASHINGTON — The $146 billion stimulus package intended to jolt the economy by giving taxpayers rebates up to $1,200 includes cash returns for illegal immigrants who pay taxes.

Under the plan passed by the House, illegal immigrants who qualify as "resident aliens" and earned a minimum of $3,000 would be eligible for rebates of between $300-$600, FOX News has learned.>

These fuckers are trying to incite violence among the white trash that watches them!

Not that Fox News doesn't throw red meat out regularly, but they're right on this one, unfortunately.

5. Who gives a rat's ass who spends the money to stimulate the economy?
You will get your money I suppose, so the more that get the money the more the economy will be stimulated.

I don't know anyone's opinion on this matter but it is much to do about nothing in my book. The idea is to give the money so people will spend it. I don't give a shit who spends it just so long as most people spend it.

It's shooting yourself in the foot to be against give the money to everyone.

6. Non resident aliens are not "illegals"...
Lots of non resident aliens legally work in the US.

--------------------------------
If a person does not meet either the Green Card or Substantial Presence Test, then that person is classified as a non-resident alien.

* A new arrival on a J-1 or F-1 visa is generally a non-resident alien.

Non-resident aliens are taxed only on their income from sources within the U.S. and on certain income connected with the conduct of a trade or business in the U.S.

General Information Regarding the Taxation of Non-resident Aliens

Non-resident aliens are taxed on earnings received while living in the U.S. Non-resident aliens (Visa type F-1 and J-1) are exempt from FICA (Social Security tax). If the Visa type is F-1 or J-1, the non-resident alien may be exempt from federal taxes only if the country the alien previously lived in before arriving in the U.S. has negotiated an income tax treaty with the U.S. government.

If the country of residence has negotiated an income tax treaty and it covers the type of payment received while visiting the U.S., the non-resident alien should complete IRS Form 8233 for earned wages or IRS Form W-8BEN for scholarship/fellowship payments. These forms must be completed annually and delivered to the Corporate Payroll Office so that federal tax is not withheld from wages or payments. State taxes must be withheld on wage payments

10. good point...
...the confusing term "non resident aliens" in the original article then goes onto explain how "real" illegial aliens ("undocumented workers", if you wish) in with the groups you defined. I can see how confusion would ensue. Sorry about jumping the gun on this.

What IS the clincher is that "every year, hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants use individual taxpayer identification numbers, known as ITINs, to file income tax returns with the IRS. These ID numbers are used instead of Social Security numbers."

So, they are elegible to claim the rebate. Whether anyone can or should do anything about this, I'll leave as an exercise to the community.

4. Well I guess if an "alien" spends money it doesn't help the economy.
Edited on Wed Jan-30-08 04:05 PM by Mountainman
Maybe they are afraid they will send the money to Mexico. Good idea if it helps the Mexican economy.

Those folks pay into social security too but will never get it.

Xenophobia rears it head!
