It's a shame Liberal is a dirty word...
Do you think the first 20 minutes of the Democratic debate tomorrow night will find the candidates fighting over "who is the more authentic Liberal?"

Also, Huckabee said he supported anti-abortion and "defense of marriage" legislation, then in the next sentence said "I believe in smaller government."

4. On TV the other night
a newsperson on a supposedly neutral network (I think it was PBS, actually!) began an interview with someone (not a politician) by saying, "You've been accused of being a liberal..." I really wanted to throw something at the TV.

Liberal

Etymology:
Middle English, from Anglo-French, from Latin liberalis suitable for a freeman, generous, from liber free; perhaps akin to Old English lēodan to grow, Greek eleutheros free
Date:
14th century

1 a: of, relating to, or based on the liberal arts <liberal education> barchaic : of or befitting a man of free birth a: marked by generosity : openhanded <a liberal giver> b: given or provided in a generous and openhanded way <a liberal meal> c: ample full3obsolete : lacking moral restraint : licentious4: not literal or strict : loose <a liberal translation>5: broad-minded; especially : not bound by authoritarianism, orthodoxy, or traditional forms6 a: of, favoring, or based upon the principles of liberalism bcapitalized : of or constituting a political party advocating or associated with the principles of political liberalism; especially : of or constituting a political party in the United Kingdom associated with ideals of individual especially economic freedom, greater individual participation in government, and constitutional, political, and administrative reforms designed to secure these objectives
— lib·er·al·ly Listen to the pronunciation of liberally \-b(ə-)rə-lē\ adverb
— lib·er·al·ness noun

The question to ask is, if this is the definition of liberal, what would those people who profess to be opposite of a liberal be? A slave? Or maybe a sheep-like member of society, living in a constant state of fear and fleecing? Considering the type who mindlessly buy the Rush Limbaugh/Sean Hannity worldview....yeah, I think that fits.

9. Yeah, funny that
I think Romney said we need to have a constitutional amendment defending marriage.

"Liberal" is such a dirty word, it's been replaced with progressive. I still use "liberal" as a rebellion against it's turning into a word that Democrats don't even want to use.

10. a dirty word....
....for evil people maybe....seems like we've been beat back down to insignificance by the corporate Dems and repugs....

....it's a shame, we could have charged a high price for the change everyone wanted if we only had a political vehicle to deliver it....

....corporate governance with their two-party charade is a recipe for hopelessness....
