Is John McCain just retarded?
Listening to him last night, his answer to every question is that he opposed Rumsfeld but thinks the Iraq war is the best things since sliced bread and that he supported the surge before anybody else.

He's asked a question about his credentials on economic issues, as compared to Mitt Romney, a businessman, and he goes off on his whole Iraq shtick.

Cripes! He's beginning to sound as ridiculous as Giuliani. On top of that, his dumbass smirk is even worse than Bush's.

I just can't see this clown winning the general election when his main issue is so unpopular with the people and his demeanor is cartoonishly immature.

1. PTSD from Nam.
And I am not kidding. I am sure his mental processes were adversely affected. Luckily, mittster sounds hardly saner.

Yep. Sounds like the perfect Republican candidate. No wonder he's the front runner.

7. He's slipping mentally it seems to me.
I'm not trying to be mean or hateful, but it seems to me he's getting a bit 'off' sounding in his thinking and speaking--he's just not as sharp as he's been in the past (not that I'm a fan or ever have been).

There was one point when Paul was talking; if you look at McCain, he was gritting his teeth and twirling his pen around in his hands really fast.

Another observation (which has nothing to do with this) - his pants were so short that while he was seated, about 3 or 4 inches of leg showed between his socks and his pants.

11. I too came away surprised...........
it was the first GOP debate I have watched. McCain came across as petty, smug, arrogant, and worst of all, unfit to lead the country. As you said he was a two trick pony last night. Surge, surge, surge, and Reagan, Reagan, Reagan. I don't like Romney or Huckabee, but they are much sharper than an aging McCain. I feel a little better about our chances of defeating McCain in a GE after watching last night. For starters, we have to hammer him on the Reagan idol worship. Something like "I'm talking about the future, he's stuck in the past". That needs to be hammered early and often. Also, our nominee will need to dry to draw out McCain's anger and pettiness. I would really go after him without getting personal. His competence on anything outside of Iraq is questionable, and we need to expose that. And on Iraq, his sentiments that we'll "be there forever" should make him somewhat vulnerable.

12. If you mean senile or mendacious, please say so.
No need to tar the mentally handicapped with the utter corruption of Republican leaders. It's enough to understand that the GOP agenda is at near-total odds with reality, so any of their candidates' speeches will be full of blather that sounds disjointed.

I find the "r" word offensive in most current usage.

14. No. He's pig headed and obstinate.
People who are retarded should not be disparaged, and people who are willfully aggressive and unreasonable should not be called retarded. It demeans the retarded and fails to accurately describe the failings of the intended subject.
