Report: Military not ready for U.S. attack
Way to go, George.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. military isn't ready for a catastrophic attack on the country, and National Guard forces don't have the equipment or training they need for the job, according to a report.

Even fewer Army National Guard units are combat-ready today than were nearly a year ago when the Commission on the National Guard and Reserves determined that 88% of the units were not prepared for the fight, the panel says in a new report released Thursday.

The commission's 400-page report concludes that the nation "does not have sufficient trained, ready forces available" to respond to a chemical, biological or nuclear weapons incident, "an appalling gap that places the nation and its citizens at greater risk."

"Right now we don't have the forces we need, we don't have them trained, we don't have the equipment," commission Chairman Arnold Punaro said in an interview with the Associated Press. "Even though there is a lot going on in this area, we need to do a lot more. ... There's a lot of things in the pipeline, but in the world we live in — you're either ready or you're not."

Punaro, a retired Marine Corps major general, had sharp criticism for Northern Command, saying that commanders there have made little progress developing detailed response plans for attacks against the homeland.

1. don't worry
The "attack" will come just in time to cancel elections so Bush becomes dictator in name and not just in fact, and he will blame it on the Democrats and have us all arrested as terrorists.

7. That's an ominous headline
I was assuming that they meant our military attacking US citizens, so I was happy to read they're not prepared....

Seriously though, what National Guard? Aren't they and most of their equipment...uh...occupied elsewhere right now?

8. That's ironic
The People of the United States pay a significant chunk of their income in federal taxes to fund a military that cannot protect them.

13. No surprise
Yet, why a need for an attack, when they (fill in the blank) can just sit back and watch us destroy ourselves? We do it so well.

16. "Not ready for duty, sir"
That trope resonated back in 2000 with the troglodytes; will they recognize what their own darling has done to their beloved military? Or will the blame slough off the Bush administration and attach to the Democrats? We know the media will only repeat what they're told in the RNC blast faxes. And the Democrats have sacrificed their credibility to complain on the subject of national security by keeping their powder dry, drier, driest.
