Just for fun. I discovered a natural gas bill from 2000 and compared the cost to this year's.

The customer charge went up 34%, from $7 to $9.40 a month.
The delivery charges went up 32%, from about $.18/CCF to $.24/CCF
The cost of gas went up 171%, from about $.28/CCF to $.76/CCF - and that's down from 2007's price!
Sales tax on the whole mess went up from 7.625% to 9.25%

Total cost per CCF was $.63 in 2000 compared to $1.16 in 2008. That's why I've turned off my upstairs furance in my 150 year-old house this winter.

3. Yeah, two of those high-efficiency types. I have an old Victorian house with about 3800

square feet. Put in all new windows in 2006 to try and cut down on heating costs. Hated doing it because I had to take out the hand-made, historic windows. The National Trust hates me for it too!!

I did not light my pilot this year. I'd rather pay the extra electric for space heaters. Last year, around this time, my gas bill was roughly $150.00 a month. This year, $20.00. I have one furnace.
