Why Our Party Fails
“If it fails, we’ll pass the House bill,” Senator Charles E. Schumer, Democrat of New York, said of the Senate version. “But we’ll give it a try.”

Any questions?

1. Are you magically going to get 60 or more Democratic Senators on the floor?

13. If all of the Democrats voted as Democrats, it wouldn't be necessary.

4. He didn't say they would fold he said they would pass the House version
It is better IMO anyway..No give-aways to the very wealthy as the Senate version wants.

7. You have been hornswoggled.
The senate version restores the unemployment benefit extension - the stimulus that actually gets to the people directly affected by the recession - that was removed by that idiot Pelosi in order to have a 'bipartisan' bill come out of the house.

12. I read that only is true if a state hits a certain trigger
and right now the only state that would qualify is Michigan.

The higher amount and the lifting of the income cap really suck too.

But it's not over if pressure is put on these Senators and people in their states are informed that LIHEAP is still on the table.
SD - Thune 2010, Alaska - Stevens 2008, Murkowski 2010, Idaho - Crapo 2010, Nebraska - Hagel (retiring), Minnesota - Coleman 2008, Penn - Specter 2010, Maine - Collins 2008, Snowe 2012, New Hampshire - Sununu 2008, Gregg 2010, Iowa - Grassley 2010, Wyoming - Enzi 2008, Barrasso 2008.

That's more than enough to acheive cloture on a LIHEAP amendment. Those are the people for Obama to call if he wants to be bipartisan, and states for the DCCC or some liberal organization to run ads. Their opponents like Al Franken and Stephanie Herseth should be preparing press releases to slam them if LIHEAP is voted down.

5. It fails because Dems think Repubs are gentlemen who negotiate, instead of thugs who don't
Thugs negotiate dishonestly. When they have negotiated with another party and are about to reach a settlement, they introduce a new demand at the last second to place the pressure upon the other side to quickly accept the demand in order to close the negotiations, and if the other side capitulates on this new demand, then the thugs may be tempted to introduce even more last second demands to apply the same kind of pressure.

8. And then having extracted all sorts of demands
they vote against the bill anyway, knowing full well that the other side has no fight left in them at all.

6. OH look....here come further cave-ins
The Democrats cannot make the Republicans happy fast enough....better just give them the gavel back because we can't handle their bullshit threats and breath-holding. Lords knows that not even trying to argue with them always produces excellent results.

When the Democrats can hold ranks on this, I'll relent, but I promise you that there are a few DLC assholes who will vote with the pukes, anyways.

"The Democrats’ willingness to publicly lay out their floor strategy verged on the waving of a surrender flag, and suggested some concern that any delay in approving the House package would be dangerous politically, because it would leave the Democrats vulnerable to charges that they were impeding efforts to prop up the economy."

The typical fear of what the Republicans say cave-in. We've seen that many times.
