2. At first I thought you were joking!!!!
Australia's Sunday News reports on an Australian government official who is facing calls to resign after admitting that he sniffed a female lawmaker's chair seat after she had stood up. The same lawmaker was recently in trouble for snapping the bra of another female lawmaker.

Troubled Opposition leader Troy Buswell has broken down in tears at a press conference and admitted he sniffed the chair of a female Liberal Party staffer.
With tears in his eyes, Mr Buswell had to compose himself before telling the media in Mandurah this morning that his behaviour had been unacceptable.

Mr Buswell said he had repeatedly refused to deny the allegations because he wanted to protect the woman involved.

But he broke down after he was asked about the effect of the reports on his wife and children.

Opposition water resources and energy spokesman John Day said today it would be the best thing for the party if Mr Buswell resigned as leader.

"I think it would be better from Troy's point of view and the parliamentary Liberal party's point of view if Troy did do that," Mr Day told ABC Radio.

"I think we're just going to haemorrhage right up to the election the way we're going, unless there's some sort of change made. We can't keep going the way we are."

6. Troy Buswell, chair sniffing bloke
Troy Buswell, chair sniffing bloke

April 29, 2008 at 8:40 pm (Australia, News, perth) (Australia, australian, buswell, chair, confession, female, leader, perth, political, sniffing, troy, western)

An Australian political leader broke down at a news conference Tuesday as he admitted that he had sniffed the chair of a female colleague, local media reported.

The confession came from the leader of the conservative Liberal Party in Western Australia, Troy Buswell, who has previously owned up to snapping the bra strap of an opposition party staffer.

Buswell told reporters at the televised news conference in Mandurah south of the state capital of Perth that he would not resign his post, which puts him in line to become state premier if his party wins elections next year.

But tears welled in his eyes and he choked up when asked how his family had reacted to the wide publicity given to the incident since the story became public at the weekend, the national AAP news agency said. (news)

did sniff colleague's chair, admits politician
One of Australia’s most senior conservative politicians broke down today as he tearfully admitted sniffing the chair of a female colleague shortly after she vacated it.

Troy Buswell, the leader of the opposition Liberal Party in Western Australia, was under intense pressure to resign over the incident, which happened in 2005.

He dismissed allegations on 13 different occasions that he had sniffed the seat, before finally admitting yesterday that it had in fact taken place.

“All I can confirm is that the events described in the paper by the former female staffer are accurate,” he said.

Holding back tears at a news conference, Mr Buswell admitted that his behaviour before becoming party leader three months ago had sometimes been highly offensive.

He has previously admitted to snapping a woman’s bra as a drunken party trick and has been accused by a retiring Liberal MP of making sexist remarks to her.
There's a grand old Irish word, snedger, meaning someone who sniffs girls' bicycle saddles. I suppose this makes Troy Buswell (you may remember me from such political scandals as...) the world's most prominent snedger.
