Poll question: How many total miles per week do you drive for work?
This doesn't include side trips or errand running, just to and from work. I always tried to make my stops at the store for things I needed on my home, and the stores I stopped at weren't out of the way, I had to pass right by them anyways..

1. I carpool one way and take the bus the other
I chose under 10 because I am counting the carpool way as "driving".

17. got that right . . .
and it works for the employers as well - I shoulder the cost of the space and the utilities - except for phone and internet access.

I could never go back to a daily commute.

I can do the laundry, have dinner prepared, etc. The time I spend doing this in no more than the casual conversations around the water cooler or in the hallway.

It works out well for all. It is not for everyone, however. I know a lot who need to get into an office.

5. when I start work later this month, I'll be driving 43 miles round trip 4 days a week
Edited on Thu May-01-08 11:53 AM by AZDemDist6
hopefully I will be able to find someone to carpool with, but since I'll be working at the National Park it's a ways out of town. I also live out of town in a VERY rural area but closer to the NP than if I was a townie.

I don't like it, but the job is welcome.

at least I will be able to keep my gas consumption under 10 gallons a week, and even less if I can carpool.

7. 200+
I head to work on Monday, Tulsa to Oklahoma City, about 100 miles. Back and forth from my job to my travel trailer at the RV park, about 3 1/2 miles each way, all week and then back home to Tulsa on Friday. Luckily, my bike gets better than 50 mpg highway and the weather is warm.

10. 300+. I live 1.5 miles from work.
But my friends live far from me. I haven't consciously decreased my driving, but I have reduced it maybe 15% since prices went crazy.

11. I, and my wife, used to drive 70 miles a day. 0 now..we're gleefully retired.
35 miles one way for both of us, though we worked in different locations. Living in a rural area and working in the city has it's benefits, but driving ain't one of them. In fact, working ain't one of them.

12. That does not include the trips to get the kids to their activities
I drive about 70 miles/week to and from work but you could double that covering kids activities.

15. I drive aprox. 170, work to home and back.
I live out in the country, where I raise my own food, am installing a wind turbine, making by own biodiesel etc.

Oh, and the vehicle that I do this commute on?

Bajaj Chetak, goes 55-60 mph, gets 100 mpg, and spews much less pollution than cars. I use less than two gallons of gas a week.

18. I work at home,
my husband is retired, so we drive very little for work, especially now that the woman I subcontract under can download me work on the computer. I used to have to drive out to her house (about 7 miles from here) to pick up CDs to transcribe, but now she just sends me the audio files electronically, and I send her back my finished transcript. It works out great.

I'm glad we don't have to drive much because our Ford Ranger doesn't get all that great gas mileage. We'll probably get a more fuel efficient little car next year when the credit cards are paid down.

20. I have a two flight commute every damned day
I sleep in our bedroom on the second floor.

My office is in the lower level.

I always stop at the food emporium on the first floor.

I sometimes encounter cat or dog traffic on one flight or the other, depending on who wants canned food and who has to pee.

Even still, I drive maybe 20,000 miles a year.
