1. Wow. That's 06, I'll bet last year was worse.
And I do wonder if the numbers are skewed. I imagine there are some people who didn't make it into this study. :(

4. But Rev. Wright is so important - Hey MSM this is what we should be talking about!!!
Makes me ill! My son who is 40 now came down with MS about 4 years ago and had no insurance. We had 3 hurricanes that year in Florida and the first attack he had was 2 weeks before the 1st one hit. Then he lost his business and couldn't get any help from FEMA in the 2nd one. He kept getting worse and we had to go from ER to ER and also tried the Clinics to no avail. It was almost 2 years before he got a diagnoses from a MS Dr. and he went to the USF and received the medicine he needed. He almost lost his eyesight and has brain atrophy and kidney problems from it now worse then if he would have been if he had gotten he immediate help he needed! We also had a huge financial burden to keep him going for a year and a half. It is just not a terrible ordeal for the person but for the entire family if they are lucky enough to have one. And this is the "greatest" country in the world? It can be, but it sure isn't right now!

6. Sadly, my household can relate to what you are saying.

I could tell a similar tale of what has happened to my husband. Thankfully he is better now, but the two years spent dealing with the hospitals, the insurance companies, the pharmacies etc has left me with major anxiety attacks, depression, and deep seated resentment and anger. I wholeheartedly understand why Wright gets angry!

I don't want to even contemplate what my mental state would be if Mark had not recovered and if I still had to take care of him 24/7.
So please accept my sympathy in your ongoing struggles.
In one of the ways that life can be extremely ironic - it was my RW neighbors, who hadn't even known us for long when all of this happened, who helped us out greatly!

5. Whoa ......
Look at the numbers for Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina. Why are they so much higher than the other states?

8. Rural North Carolina has really shoddy health care...
I know of one person who was taken to a hospital in a small NC town, showing all classic signs of stroke (a friend of mine examined her before the paramedics came in and gave them all the necessary information). When my friend finally got to the hospital this person was being discharged - diagnosis of migrane. My friend raised hell and got her back into the ER where they confirmed that she was diagnosed with a migrane. My friend showed the ER nurse the girl's face which was pulled over to one side and paralized. They agreed to reexamine her. Someone later mentioned to my friend that the girl had no insurance...not true. They had just failed to find her insurance card in her purse!

Really scary!

Attempting to demolish the Public Health Department, the state Medicaid program, and other safety nets.

11. A total outrage!
That health care is seen as a privilege and not a right says a bunch about this country. We're one of the least civilized nations among the prosperous nations of the world.

13. It would be interesting to compare on a per capita basis
If I get the time, I will figure it out because it would tell how poor health care is in some areas. But Some states it isn't too hard to declare very poor without that analysis.

15. If there was a list of people who are insured and die of treatments
denied or delayed, I bet it would be even more than this. It makes me sick - no pun intended.

18. I betcha the states which are "right to work" states have more deaths.

Without unions, they have more shitty jobs without any benefits.

20. Somebody should chart this, using per-capita adjusted stats plotting it on a map of U.S.
somebody should definitely do this. Somebody not me, I mean.
