Auto Registration-One More Lie...
When you re-register a car in your state, what does it cost? That is an important question-since they tell you it is a fee, should it not bear some relationship to an expense or cost??? In my state it runs about $100 and is based on the vehicle and it's age. When you pay, they plug the numbers into a computer and then provide two stickers to place on the plates...is that truly a "fee", since the actual cost of services could never exceed a quarter of that?

1. It is a property tax
In some states you declare your vehicles on your property taxes each year. Others include the property tax in the price of the registration.
Of the states I live in, two included it in the registration and one you declared your vehicles on an annual tax statement. Not sure which one was fairer or cheaper.
I do know if feels more expensive at registration time.

5. Yep...Just acting bitter again...
...we have no taxes-just fees.If the fees stagger you, tough shit.A fee where I come from reflects the cost of providing a service (computer input and two stickers-top end $20).To charge 5 times as much and pretend it reflects the costs rather than a tax is Bushesque...and unworthy of NH...

4. It is a fee to help cover the costs to the state of you driving your car over the year
Not a fee just to pay for printing out those little stickers.

6. Really-what costs does the state accrue...
Edited on Fri May-02-08 10:49 PM by catnhatnh
Because I drive much less than 5000 miles per year and the same "fee" covers 1 million miles...The cost is a "registration fee" which SAYS it is about the cost to recopy the same license plate info they've held for the past 3 years. Suppose you would or could charge to provide the "little stickers" and to remember a six digit number for a year-that is all they provide. What would that cost. The "fee" is on it's face a lie.
