Perhaps not all Canadians like to play that role. Perhaps a lot of Canadians consider that role to be obnoxious especially when coupled with a truly obnoxious assumption that the president of the USA is "leader of the free world".
After all, Canadians and other free citizens of the world outside the US umbrella don't have voting rights or even the least input regarding the US process. Yet our ancestors fought to be free, so that we are free.
That's just the first level of dissonance.
WTF is a "Reagan Democrat"? "Reagan", a puppet to begin with, has become a right-wing myth in the USA - but jeez, that myth doesn't resonate everywhere. Not with me. What measure of dullness must it take to resonate with that level of fiction?
Sigh.
I do think that progressive Canadians resonate with progessives everywhere, including in the USA. I'd say that this is *because* of our differences, that it's *because* we're on the same path, and that it's our different situations which create conditions for our resonation.
