My claim to fame around here is probably my occasionally spectacular rants on how much Republicans suck. Fact is that I don't think ALL Republicans suck. Just the ones who don't bother to think. So I suppose I mean MOST Republicans.
People who can look around at the state of our Union and NOT see that the economic policies they've espoused for so long really don't work anything like they said they would. People who think that the best way to deal with an international crisis is by blowing something up. People who think they should have the right to decide what is and what is not a "natural" state of being when it comes to romance and sexuality. People who somehow believe that the mythology of a bunch of desert-dwelling nomads from thousands of years in the past should dictate our actions and attitudes in this modern world.
They suck.
Okay. Now that I've got THAT out of the way, I'd like to address something else. I don't give a shit which potential candidate goes up against McCain in November. There are things I like and dislike about both of them and that's all there is to it. My choice of candidate, made after several months of contemplation, was John Edwards. He didn't make the grade, so we'll all have to live with whatever comes out of it.
McCain cannot be allowed to be our next President. Where Dubya is like a malicious, ignorant child cast into a stage far too large for him, McCain is simply crazier than a shithouse rat. The more he says and does the more we should ALL be realizing that he's more dangerous than a hundred ignorant, malicious children like Dubya.
I could be wrong, of course, but I don't think I am.
The Republicans' economic theories have been proven to be so much bunk. Snake oil. Fiscal quackery. Humbug. People need to worry about feeding their families more than the hostile intentions of a few religious fanatics half a world away. It's really as simple as that. Republican policies hurt everyone but the very rich. They caused the Great Depression by doing the same damn things and here we are three quarters of a century later facing something remarkably similar--again foisted upon us by their voodoo economics.
Enough is enough.
I'm preaching to the choir here, I realize, but sometimes I have to wonder if those engaged in the fierce primary battles truly understand how steep the cliff really is. While we're here being nasty to one another, the Republicans are writing the script for their post-primary blitz. No matter who we nominate, they're going to get both barrels of the bullshit shotgun.
I think I've said it before, but I'll reiterate. Until the Primaries are over, I have very little to say about this whole mess. If the candidate doesn't attack the Republican economic policies, he or she will be letting us down. Not just the liberals, but all Americans.
Right now my focus has to be on my least favorite part of the whole author gig. Self-promotion. Does anyone actually LIKE this part? Probably. Writing is a solitary occupation for the most part, but the whole marketing side of the equation can't be ignored.
With this in mind I'd like to introduce everyone to my new blog.
http://sajewilliams.wordpress.comI'm dedicating this blog to my every day life and my observations about the world in general and various subjects like genre literature, writing, the internet, the media, and life in Washington State, USA, on Planet Earth, in the early part of the 21st Century. What it will NOT include is a lot of political stuff. I may inject some social commentary here and there, but I mean to keep it more or less free of the kind of rants I am known for here.
I don't know if it'll draw much attention from those who know me here, but I think it's a direction I need to go right now. I hope that some of my fellow DUers see fit to visit it from time to time and show their support.
And don't worry. Once the primaries are over and things start heating up, I'm sure I'll have a lot to say here.
I'll be around.
