Chris Matthews: MSNBC bosses were 'basically pro-war'
MSNBC's Chris Matthews gave a speech last night at Harvard's Institute of Politics Forum where he made a few eye-opening confessions:

-----

"Well, it's not official." (LAUGH) "Well, I don't think Joe Scarborough has. And I don't think Tucker Carlson did. And Keith does his thing. He does his thing--it's something and it's very successful. I do my thing. I don't think that's true. I think... my sense is that everybody that lives in New York is for Hillary."

"The people I work with--all my bosses--seem to be for Hillary," he added. "I just sense it. They don't actually say it, but there's no sense from the top I can tell you that it's pro-Obama... by any means.

"That's not what I get," he continued. "And it was basically pro-war during the war.. the bosses were. And I was up against that. And if there's anybody telling me to push Obama, I haven't heard it yet. And by the way, they're so fickle.... but there seems to be a New York thing about Hillary. Just the people from... it's like the Yankees and the Mets... it's their thing. You know? It's Hillary. You know? And I feel it. I find it. It's hard to figure sometimes. But I don't know who you are talking about. I know who you are talking about."

Matthews take a look at the name at the top of your paycheck.

The name GE didn't give you a clue about being paid by warmongers before now?

4. I hope when he leaves MSNBC he writes a tell all
Be interesting!

Oh and let's not forget they fired Phil Donahue cause he was the only one telling the truth in the lead up to war. And how they made him stack his guests so that if one was speaking against the war there were 2 - 3 to counter as cheerleaders!

5. GE makes a lot of money off of war and BushInc gets a LOT of protection from Clintons
Edited on Wed May-07-08 11:51 AM by blm
so it is absolutely no surprise that GE bosses would be down for the return of the Clintons as long as BushInc and the war agenda was protected into the next decade - just as the fascists planned.

6. Joe Scarborough talked about this....
on "Real Time." He revealed that the MSNBC bosses pulled him and other
pundits into rooms and would harangue them, if they were too hard on one
candidate or if they said something that the candidate didn't like.

Scarborough said that the Hillary campaign would call the top dogs at
MSNBC and scream about the coverage they were getting. Then, the MSNBC
pundits, like Scarborough, would be pulled in and lectured.

Scarborough said, "You have no idea what we go through."

I find all of this completely amazing, because Obama broke through all
of it. The media bosses were against Obama. The Republicans wanted
to run against Hillary---with Bill Kristol, Pat Buchanan and other neocons
leveraging Hillary and bashing Obama.

Despite all of this, he has broken through.

Obama truly is the hope that we've been waiting for. It's serendipity.

At a time when our democracy is eroding, and when the DLC neocons have
joined hands with the Republican neocons--here comes Barack Obama--taking
it all on.

I can't believe that the neocon thug reign just might be over.

15. If all the voters knew what I've observed of the NBCs over a period of 17

years, they would see through all of it. The NBCs are in the position of being owned AND ruled by the corporate-military complex and the politicos they placed in power to make the military-corporate agenda successful. They are perfect at it after all these years. Today, it's obvious that they need Hillary for old and new, (most likely) false scandals and her favorable war and obliteration leanings. She has many uses for them and she is the certain default for more war if she wins.

Russert and Scarborough might lose their jobs with those comments. GE-NBCs won't let anyone admit that they are a war mongering and character assassinating corporation that pretends to bring news.

28. When Hillary wanted to destroy Kerry
she got her face on every tv screen on every channel she wanted. But couldn't manage it to oppose the invasion.

Pro-war. Pro-Hillary.

And I think America has finally gotten smart to it. Something has been going on in this country beyond party politics.

19. And, what a revolting ............
spectacle is was to behold; the cheer-leading, and bogus 'experts', and the chomping at the bit.
Fox Fake News has left its mark on once trustworthy networks; and thanks to Bill Clinton, the owners of the media also own the men and women claiming to be reporters.
Dan Rather, in a moment of clarity, said that he had never seen so much fear permeating the news rooms in this country; and, I believe him.

21. And CNN was absolute pro-war, of course Fox and ABC/Disney & CBS/Viacom Yes...
Edited on Wed May-07-08 03:04 PM by LaPera
both Disney & Viacom are huge contributors to the republican party...All five "news" networks were/are pro war and the other side progressives with the now proven truth.... those same and only five news networks would NOT allow liberals to expose the truth & lies about the war & invasion to even be heard....Just as these same five networks, (NBC/General Motors also profiting from the war & television ratings )also colluded to make sure John Edwards would NOT be heard and would be forced out of the Dem race.

People still watch their televisions to make their choices....fucking unbelievable....people have been warning since the Sixties, don't watch television for your news...but people are stupid, lazy and think it's all just entertainment and get sucked in as planned!

30. In 2002, Matthews was strongly against the coming Iraq war
He wrote articles about it in the San Francisco Chronicle, urging people to oppose the war:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2002/09/01/IN133269.DTL

"...So I'll say it: I hate this war that's coming in Iraq. I don't think we'll be proud of it. Oppose this war because it will create a millennium of hatred and the suicidal terrorism that comes with it. You talk about Bush trying to avenge his father. What about the tens of millions of Arab sons who will want to finish a fight we start next spring in Baghdad? ..."

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/chronicle/archive/2002/03/24/IN164155.DTL

"...It will take 200,000 U.S. troops to invade Saddam Hussein's capital and effect the "regime change" demanded by neo-conservative policy wonks and backed by oil-patchers George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. The question America needs to answer now, while there's still time to stop this road trip, is whether a war justified by ideology and energy economics is truly in this country's interests.

A U.S.-Iraqi war has advanced well beyond the "contingency" phase. The last barrier of restraint, Secretary of State Colin Powell, has been broken by the will of a Bush administration partnership of ideology and oil that is now set on war. I wonder if anything can prevent this military move against Baghdad on which so many who hold power have set their hearts. ..."

And yet, after opposing this war in print, Tweety spent the next several years kissing a monkey's ass, drooling over his flight suit, and being buddy-buddy with the likes of Tom Delay and Ann Coulter without putting them on the spot and, instead, he disgraced himself by the way he treated Dennis Kucinich in his only appearance on Hardball.
