MSNBC not only lurks here at DU; they lift our stuff, too! They just swiped "Sinkhole de Mayo"
Edited on Fri May-09-08 10:49 AM by Bozita
At approximately 9:40am EDT and again at 10:55, MSNBC cut to their reporter at the sinkhole in Texas. He jokingly referred to the "Sinkhole de Mayo."

Please see reply #28 here...

28. Could it be the ... Sinkhole de Mayo?

Please note the above posting time. That was barely a half hour after MSNBC began its blanket sinkhole coverage.

On Wednesday, Keith Olbermann reported on the Florida sub teacher losing his job after performing wizardry (magic trick in which a toothpick disappears and then reappears) in front of the kids. Keith joked about changing the teacher's supervisor into a newt.

Please check reply #106 and #116.

116. "He turned me into a newt! ...

Those comments were posted here on Tuesday.

Maybe it's time for a nice group wave to the folks at MSNBC.

1. Should we start copywriting our more clever remarks?
Interesting how the big corps are so free to steal other people's good stuff but protect their own drivel so fiercely.

5. The "newt" thing is from Monty Python
So anyone who's a fan of theirs would have heard it before.

7. Well, to be fair,
the "newt" thing is from Monty Python, so anyone could have lifted it from them (quoted them this morning myself).

As for Sinkhole de Mayo, as clever a pun as it is, again more than one person could have thought of it.

On the other hand, maybe they do lift from DU. Who knows?

8. If you're lurking MSNBC... read on...
NO matter how hard you try to pander to the Fox audience,
you're never gonna match up...

We totally stopped watched MSNBC (except for Keith) during the
Rev. Wright tsunami.. it was uncalled for.

Wanna improve ratings?

Ditch Scarborough... cannot take that bigotry early in the morning.

Try "RAchel in the Morning.."

Get rid of Buchanan... sheesh.. guy's gonna have stroke on the air.
He's pathetic.

Try to get Matthews on some kind of mood stabilizer,

and think about what people really want to see on cable news network,
and its NOT right wing talking points,
and its NOT pulling out the kneepads for whoever is 'in the house.'

And stop stealing our commentary!

13. Or, they may have read this article about a Seattle sinkhole...
http://www.womenworkingsolo.com/2007/05/sink_hole_de_mayo.html

Or they may have read the Times article talking about what the residents are calling the thing.

Or, they might even have heard local residents talking calling it that.

20. The DU posting was at 4:50pm EDT on Wednesday. The NYT reference was on Friday, thirty hours later.
I had never before seen or visited the womenworkingsolo website. I have no idea of the traffic at that website.

We do know the kind of traffic experienced at DU, and it was pretty heavy on Wednesday evening. DU actually went down for a few hours.

I rest my case.

21. I'm just sayin' that clever bon mots...
are not always unique.

Good for you comin' up with that one yourself, but I wouldn't be a bit surprised if a hundred others came up with it themselves. 'Tis just the kind of thing that happens.

15. So does Comedy Central...
I've heard it on the Colbert Report, including one of my own.. when I blamed Toby Keith for getting Willie Nelson busted right after Toby was on the show talking about smoking on Willie's bus... a short time later, Colbert had Toby back on the show and chastised him for it...

I forget what the other thing was (of mine), but I hear Colbert mention things I've read on here all the time..

17. If Colbert is lurking here,
why has he never picked up on my idea for the Greatest Living American to adopt the suitably named Colbert St. in the heavily flooded Lakeview section of NOLA? It's conveniently located just two blocks from Louis XIV St. (cut to shot of the Dear Leader in powdered white wig and silk robe) The possibilities are limitless: a (replica) statue twice the size of the one in Jackson Square, a (temporary) street sign showing the name change to "Dr. Stephen T. Colbert, DFA Blvd.", etc.

Remember, "I am New Orleans and so can you!"
