$3.59 gas in Garden City causes havoc for motorists, policeFREE PRESS STAFF • May 9, 2008
A year ago, metro Detroit motorists looking to refuel would have driven by a gas station offering gas for $3.59 a gallon.
But this morning, when the owner of a Mobil gas station on the northeast corner of Middlebelt Road at James Avenue in Garden City decided to have a customer appreciation day, and dropped his price from $3.79 to $3.59, he had more customers than he and his station could handle.
Garden City police report a backup on northbound Middlebelt extending almost a mile from the station south to nearly Ford Road and they aren’t too happy about it.
”They’re spending $8 to save a couple of cents of gas,” said a Garden City police sergeant who did not want to be identified.
Garden City police are continuing to monitor the situation.
