you should check this out, and read the whole thing.
(snip)

For three days, RDHS students participated in the educational program, "Every 15 Minutes," which is designed to deter young people from drinking and driving. This is the third time the school has sponsored the program.

Erik MacMillan, 17, was patted down in front of some 90 high school students before being handcuffed by a court officer and led off to jail, following the manslaughter sentencing. He pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter and two counts of aggravated operating under the influence.

They recreated accident scenes, and rather realistic looking injuries. It really was rather emotional for many students and parents.

1. The article is a little confusing to me.
This is a recreation of an event that actually happened? Or is it completely fictional?

2. no, it's not a recreation of an event

it's something the kids do every year to show the dangers of drinking and driving. Basically to scare the shit out of them from doing it. I'm all for it. I have 8 friends that have been killed by drunk drivers.

on edit:

I guess I shouldn't have used the word recreated in my original post. They created a fictional accident, deaths, trial, and prison terms, using real vehicles that were already damaged from accidents, funerals, real police, judges, lawyers that volunteered their time. Court room, cuffs ect...

3. The article is not 100% clear, either.

But I think it's a great idea! The wrecked cars and the staged injuries make it all the more poignant. More high schools should be doing this.

And, I'm sorry to hear about your friends.
