Democratic National Committee: Dean Congratulates Rep-Elect Childers on Win in MississippiWASHINGTON, May 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement congratulating Representative-Elect Travis Childers on his victory in the special election yesterday for Mississippi's 1st Congressional District.
This is the third straight special election victory for Democrats this year in a heavily Republican district following wins in former GOP House Speaker Dennis Hastert's district and a Louisiana district held by Republicans for the last three decades. President Bush took 60% of the vote in Mississippi's 1st district in 2004, and former Republican Congressman Roger Wicker held the seat for 13 years.
DNC staff working with the Mississippi Democratic Party and from
surrounding states assisted the Childers campaign through the
50-state-strategy. Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean
issued the following statement:
"On behalf of the Democratic Party I congratulate Representative-Elect Travis Childers on his win. The other winners last night were the people of Mississippi's First Congressional District. We thank them for reaffirming that when Democrats stand up for the values we share, we can win in Mississippi and across America."
I say congrats to MS as well.
