Obama slams Bush over 'appeasement' remark in Israel
By David Lightman and Dion Nissenbaum | McClatchy Newspapers

JERUSALEM _President Bush Thursday used an address to Israel's Knesset to compare some American political opponents to Nazi appeasers and brand them as too willing to "negotiate with the terrorists and radicals."

Democratic presidential frontrunner Barack Obama immediately took offense.

"It is sad that President Bush would use a speech to the Knesset on the 60th anniversary of Israel's independence to launch a false political attack," the Illinois senator said.

"It is time to turn the page on eight years of policies that have strengthened Iran and failed to secure America or our ally Israel. Instead of tough talk and no action, we need to do what Kennedy, Nixon and Reagan did and use all elements of American power — including tough, principled, and direct diplomacy — to pressure countries like Iran and Syria."

The White House denied that Bush was criticizing Obama, but there was little doubt he had both Obama and former President Jimmy Carter in mind when he criticized those who suggest that the United States would be better servied to talk to Iran and other radical groups, such as Hezbollah and Hamas. Carter last month met with senior Hamas officials in Egypt, and Obama has been a frequent proponent of opening negotiations with Iran.

Bush said those who seek negotiations with terrorists think they have an "ingenious argument," and compared their motives to those who wanted to appease Nazi Germany before World War II.

3. Did anyone else find it appalling that Bush would bring up "NAZIS", during this celebration, in this
place?

I mean, putting aside the utter gall at the inappropriateness of the political attack, I mean WTF! over bringing up Nazis during a celebration of Israel's b-day in the Knesset?!?!?!

I found that really offensive and shocking - talking about Holocaust deniers and such bullshit as a political cudgel during a celebration of the nation.

What a freak!

11. Before anyone ever uses the word nazi in public in Israel, let alone on TV
he/she should check with all important people involved and have it approved for tastefullness and appropriateness.

But on the birthday celebration of an entire nation that was victimized, shows his complete lack of knowledge or respect for anyone or anything.

I wish the entire room had gotten up and left.

13. HOLY SH*T
This is so wrong on so many levels I don't know where to start. The man actually out batshitcrazied himself.

Sigh. I liked it better when he traveled to China and couldn't find the right door to exit. Looking back, I really wish they wouldn't have pointed to the correct door that day.
