Democrats = Nazi Appeasers

I'm a Democrat. A difficult place to be politically? Yes. The leadership of my party refuses to honor the law, the US Constitution, and the will of the majority of Americans, and, as a consequence of this inaction, refuses also to show minimal respect for the hundreds of thousands of fighting men and women who have died truly trying to assure at least a chance that justice and decency can be the clockwork that drives this society.

It is difficult to remain a Democrat because the leaders of my party refuse to indict the war criminal who is now operating as the president of the U.S.. And his co-conspirators. And their subordinates.

The leaders of my party refuse also to expose and condemn the Republicans members of Congress who have spent the past seven years further corrupting this society, further assaulting its already weakened reputation of a dedication to justice, and further eroding what remains of its almost non-existent claim to global moral leadership. (In other words, all Congressional Republicans.)

But all this is nothing - nothing at all - compared to the latest outrage from the destructive, warmongering sociopath, George W. Bush.

The miserable bastard - who, by any definition, is a bona fide war criminal - is in Israel to join in the celebration of nothing less than that state's shameful and horrific treatment of the Palestinian people for the past sixty years. During a speech - written not by Bush since he has demonstrated his functional illiteracy over and over again - he parrots the (obviously) neo-Con writer's comparison of Democrats to Nazi appeasers during the years immediately prior to World War II. As reported at thinkprogress.org:

"While delivering an address before the Israeli parliament commemorating the 60th anniversary of Israel, President Bush said that Sen. Barack Obama and Democrats favor a policy of appeasement toward terrorists. CNN reports that Bush was comparing Obama to “other U.S. leaders back in the run-up to World War II who appeased the Nazis.”

In his speech, Bush said, “As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: ‘Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided.’ We have an obligation to call this what it is – the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history.”

CNN’s Ed Henry reported that, while “President Bush never uttered the words Barack Obama,” his White House sources tell him it was clearly intended to be a partisan shot: White House aides are acknowledging that this was a reference to the fact that Sen. Obama and other Democrats have publicly said that it would be ok for the U.S. President to meet with leaders like the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad.

President Bush may want to take up his head-in-the-sand views with his own Defense Secretary. Just yesterday, Robert Gates said the U.S. needs to “sit down and talk with” Iran: “We need to figure out a way to develop some leverage…and then sit down and talk with them,” Gates said. “If there is going to be a discussion, then they need something, too. We can't go to a discussion and be completely the demander, with them not feeling that they need anything from us.”

Bush’s cross-continental partisan assault upends the traditional notion that U.S. politics should stop “at the water's edge.” Reacting to Bush’s comments, Obama issued this statement: “It is sad that President Bush would use a speech to the Knesset . . . to launch a false political attack. It is time to turn the page on eight years of policies that have strengthened Iran and failed to secure America . . . .”
So, George W. Bush, speaking to an assembly of those who understand exactly what and who he is - and how to manipulate him again and again - and an assembly to which an allusion to Nazis brings a justifiable gut-level response of rage, compares the presumed Democratic nominee for President of the United States to a Nazi sympathizer, even as his Secretary of Defense (War) is aligning himself with those whom Bush's speech-writer derides as "Nazi appeasers."

What will it take before the people of this country finally rid themselves of this immeasurably degenerate Republican thug? This war criminal.
