Yup.
But in Southern states with large black populations, like Alabama, Mississippi and Virginia, an energized black electorate could create a countervailing force, particularly if conservative white voters choose not to flock to Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee. Merle Black, a political scientist at Emory University in Atlanta, predicts “the largest black turnout in the history of the United States” this fall if Mr. Obama is the nominee.

To hold these states, Republicans may have to work harder than ever. Already, turnout in Democratic primaries this year has substantially exceeded Republican turnout in states like Arkansas, Louisiana, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Some analysts suggest that North Carolina and Virginia may even be within reach for the Democratic nominee, and they point to the surprising result in a Congressional special election in Mississippi this week as an indicator of things to come.

5. I hope the ACLU and the NLG and the NAACP litigate them all to hell for even trying.
They should be driven into bankruptcy and forced out of politics.

3. This is going to be fun
theres so many white people who loath the idea of a Black Man in the white house that there will be many heads exploding over this. Yes, I predict our first Black President will win in the largest landslide ever in Americas history.

6. One thing that I'm really worried about:
Widespread disenfranchisement of black voters.

They did it in 2000 and 2004, and that made all the difference in both elections, especially in Florida and Ohio, respectively. They have so many ways of doing it. Now, with voter ID laws in some states, it will be that much easier. The Dems need a comprehensive plan to fight that kind of thing, because we know damn well that they're going to try it.

Well, at least we won't have Blackwell to contend with.

7. If there is in fact monolithic Black voter turnout in November,
it'll overwhelm any real roadblocks put up to stop them, or will make those roadblocks so blazingly obvious as to render them ineffective, even if they have to keep the polls open until Wednesday.

This tide ain't stopping. The only way they're going to keep people from the polls this year is if they put the polling stations on the moon...and I still think that'd fail.

Check and see what the Southern Poverty Law Center is doing about this. If they're not gamed up already, they will be soon.

10. Harold Ford came very close to winning here in TN...
I know a lot of folks don't care for him and that's understandable. He still would have been a hell of a lot better than the damn crook that we've got for a senator now.

Fact of the matter is, that TN isn't as solidly red as some used to think. It was still racism that beat Ford, but IMO, Obama has a decent chance of giving McCain a run for his money here.
