1. John Edwards is correct.
His assessment of Bush's comment is, if anything, generous.

Bush owes many apologies and there is not time left on his political calendar to make them.

But he owes them just the same.

Good for John Edwards and others to call this miserable monkey of a president on this reckless remark in Israel.

3. And too bad he didn't bring up the genius researcher who gave that
quote from the "appeasing senator" didn't look to see that it was a republican senator named William Borah who made the Hitler jawboning statement.

6. The only upside of this
Is that most Americans under the age of 40 don't know who Hitler or the Nazis were. Some do -- many do here, of course. But the lack of knowledge of this era among the general population under 40 is appalling. Hell, even the right-wing douchebag on Tweety's show didn't know much about it.

I know this is hard to believe, but I got slapped in the face with it one day about 10 years ago when I was teaching -- college ethics. I was going on about "evil" and was using the Nazis as an example (a favorite example among ethics teachers), when one of the better students in the class raised her hand and said, "I don't want to be rude, but we're not sure who the Nazis were or why they were so bad." Everyone else in the class agreed. I was absolutely dumbfounded.

So, Bush's comments, while they angered us, had a limited audience, and most of the people in that audience know he is full of shit. So, I think the damage from his comments -- except to what is left of his reputation and his "legacy" -- is minimal.
