But that not really the point of this post. The National Reconnaissance Office has been tasked by the DHS with providing data culled from its network of spy satellites to various US law enforcement agencies, a brand new and wonderous way to watch us all pee in our formerly secure bathrooms.

Many of these satellites are already pointed at the US to allegedly provide "scientific data," according to the NRO, so it's just a matter of expanding the distribution list -- and probably moving a few dozen (hundred?) more satellites into geosynchronous orbit over the US.

This article describes the whole deal in great detail -- who's doing what, when, why, how, the various private companies poised to glom onto the usual billions in DoD contracts.

Really terrific stuff, since it goes a long way toward replacing the UK as the world's most surveilled industrialized country.
