Poll question: what would you rather see: a john mccain presidency with a veto-proof dem majority in the congress..
or a barack obama presidency with a republican simple majority in the congress?

2. That's OBVIOUS. The President does NOT make laws, Congress does.
A veto-proof Congress can render the President irrelevant.

12. Yeah that's the way it's supposed to work.

But, thanks to Bush's unprecedented use of signing statements, McCain can sign every law that comes across his desk, and simply not act on them.

Congress passes a law that requires an investigation into the crimes of the Bush adminstration? McCain just tells his Justice Department to ignore and continue spying on Democrats.

Both choices are not optimal, however I'd rather have Obama in the WH. As CIC he can order the war to end.

It would be the beginning of trying build back this country's world reputation for something other than torture, spying, and illegal invasion.

14. Technically...ONLY CONGRESS has the power to declare war.
A GOP Congress could keep this shit rolling for...oh, a hundred years.

3. Wow. I didn't realize so many don't understand the power of the presidency.
It's a false choice, of course, since the only way we will get a veto proof congress is if Obama wins the presidency handily.

15. Not necessarily. There are a load of GOP seats up for grabs.
People could vote for the D in the Senate and House, and vote for the R Presidential candidate.

It happens.

4. Either is awful -- Repubs have ruled in recent decades with HUGE Democratic majorities, and ...
the Democrats go into this election controlling both Houses of Congress and ALL SIGNS pointing to a country fed up with the Repugs. I should think that ending with anything less than 55 Democratic seats in the Senate and at least the present proportion of Democrats in the House (strong majority) would signal AWFUL leadership by the Democrats.

Further, Obama should really be the odds-on favorite to win the prez election, but I just don't trust the MSM and all those "serving" souls out there willing to undermine freedom, Constitutionalism, law, and the national interest for God, "law", country and, above all, obedience/respectability.

5. Definitely A Democratic President
the President makes judicial appointments. All the laws are meaningless if you have people like Scalia tossing them out because they don't fit his narrow constitutional interpretation.

And Obama is good at working with others - by simple majority I assume you mean one that isn't veto proof.

So, it'd be foolish to give up that for a third Bush term, even with a strong Democratic majority in Congress.

19. They do, but only VERY rarely is a nominee rejected.....Hell, look at Thomas and Scalia
If shit like that can get through senate confirmation, then we need to be making the nominations instead of the Republicans.

7. Neither will happen
We get a Democratic (probably not veto-proof) Congress--I'd bet money on that
one, and I'm not a betting man.

We either get a narrowly elected McCain who will "my friends" a Democratic
Congress into passing on awful stuff Bush would fail at, and leave us gaping in
dismay afterwards---OR we elect the Democratic nominee and start to try to
repair the damage of the last 8 years. And be sure of one thing--we'll need
a LOT more than 8 years to undo the damage. It wouldn't hurt to get started,
though.............

21. NEITHER!
I want an Obama Presidency with a strong Democratic majority in Congress.

And there had better not be anymore excuses about why Corporate America keeps getting placed ahead of working people in this country. I want the Democratic Party to show us who exactly they represent, and shove this country back to the left, after of years of being stuck in a right hand turn... Under Reagan, Poppy, leveling off with Clinton, and then the sharp turn into the ditch with shit for brains.
