Kodak easyshare cameras - a POS to avoid.
Edited on Sat May-17-08 11:28 AM by lynnertic
Mine is a little more than a year old and it just died - won't power up and new batteries put in it get hot.
The camera isn't covered by warranty. It hasn't been dropped or exposed to liquid or bad batteries.

Kodak offers to repair the camera for $80 plus shipping both ways. :wtf: The site warns that if I send in the camera and decide not to repair it, I'll be assessed a $48 shipping and handling fee.

I won't buy another camera from Kodak. I'm not interested in dropping $150 on a piece of junk every few months only to send it to the landfill -- my liberal guilt can't handle it, my pocketbook can't handle it, the optics are crap anyway.

I suggest you consider this too.

11. Our 5600 has been great
The only complaint is that the flash-recharge seems really slow. I'd happily add a slot for another pair of batteries if it would boost the refresh rate.

2. Went through three of them before we got smart.
Two were mine and one was TeenMidlo's.

Pieces of crap, all.

4. Ouch. I haven't had a problem yet.
I have a two year old EasyShare for work, and another one for home that's just over a year old. So far, so good (fingers crossed).

6. This goes well with the trend of once great companies turning to crap
see Ford, GM, GE to an extent...

9. The One That Surprises me the Most is Leica
What ever happened to Leica? They used to make the best cameras in the world, but they seem to have gotten left behind.

Kodak has sold mediocre cameras for decades.

Moreover, they are primarily a company that makes film. Why would anyone buy a digital camera from them? They want you to think digital cameras are toys, and that film is the real deal.

7. Canon Here
Canons are the best. I have also had good luck with Konika and Olympus.

13. The lower end Kodaks have become junk.
It used to be, you could always get a cheap Kodak and it would work forever. Not anymore.

14. This is the new trend of
American Industry....shoddy and cheap. Engineers today are engaged in 'Planned Obsolescence.' They spend their time figuring out how to get the product (washing machine, car, etc.) to fail after the warranty expires.

Providing a good product at a good value is no longer a goal of American Industry.
