Eleven years ago, the neoconservative Project for a New American Century (PNAC) set out its statement of principles advocating the overthrow of Saddam Hussein, putting the country on the road to a preventative invasion of Iraq. Signatories included future Iraq war architects Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, and Elliott Abrams, as well as neoconservatives like Bill Kristol and Robert Kagan. From PNAC’s statement of foreign policy goals:

The history of the 20th century should have taught us that it is important to shape circumstances before crises emerge, and to meet threats before they become dire.

But just as the neocons are attempting to run from responsibility for the Iraq war, it appears PNAC may be abandoning its own website. Here’s the message that greets visitors to PNAC’s site:

Remember this is the core group of war profiteers. Their driving purpose if to take power, and once in power, to suck trillions of dollars from the treasury as fast as they can. They know this is not sustainable. Eventually the public rises up th throw them out, just as happened after these same guys sucked trillions out of the treasury with the S&L ripoff, fake Star Wars projects and any number of games under the Iran-Contra umbrella.

the PNAC plan was hatched while they were out of power (at least nominally) during 1993-2000. They have feasted the past 8 years like has never been done in the history of the nation. They know it is over this time. They are going underground and starting on their plans to begin a new feast in 2013.

Their site might have disappeared but what they laid out is still available.

As to Cheney, he was working with them. He is a prominent figure with PNAC.

But when it came time for him to assemble the Chimpministration from PNAC's ranks, even Dick had some sick level of standards. Some of those fools even creeped him out. Those are the guys who were backing Rudy 9u11ani earlier in this campaign, and now they're on Team McLoony.
