In moving threads to the Dungeon . . .
Edited on Tue May-20-08 01:45 PM by defendandprotect
could we at least have the courtesy ...

of a smooth transition --- making it possible for those interested in the subject to continue

to find it --- the notice often makes it appear that the thread is totally unavailable ---

and the pathway to finding the thread again is very awkward ---

Come on, DU, you can do better than this ---

Right --- ????

1. When threads are moved,
doesn't it give you a direct link to the thread?

3. Yeah, I've noticed that as well
"My DU" doesn't connect to where the thread was moved to, and stops showing any replies you may be getting.

You have to keep checking manually.

19. True...and it disrupts the thread...especially when one has taken time to reply and it disappears.
Tracking it down takes some time...and then the discussion dies because most people aren't going to go into the Dungeon to check for it.

20. Hence the entire point of relegating it to the dungeon lol

23. DU's owners are embarrassed by certain topics, and knowing far fewer people will view or comment...
...on said topic if the thread has been dungeoned is merely an attempt at brushing the ugly under the rug.

6. Not always...
Sometimes it's just the message you read in the OP, with no link. I think it mainly applies to posts that have been removed totally, though.

8. Yes -- -that's the idea it gives you . . . that the "thread is removed totally" . . .
It doesn't at all make clear DIRECTLY that the thread has simply been put in a new location ---
and it is a very choppy road to the new location.

This doesn't have to be --- not at all ---

These are subjects the DU administration doesn't want the DU website to be identified with for one reason or another ---
These are threads they want sidelined --- FINE ---

But it's more than that . . . the system is designed now to confuse the poster, to lose the thread and disconnect those who have been interested in it ---

Basically, the manner of handling these taboo subjects here seems quite obviously to be about
killing interest in the subject while not having to defend killing the thread outright.

7. NO -- it gives the message I repeated for you . ..
Simply reported as a "MISSING" thread . . .
then you have to go back to thread topic to trying to find the thread . . .
but your reply and the response to it don't show up again in the way it originally did before
the thread was .... "moved."

So -- NO --- there is nothing but awkwardness about this --- and, of course, being familiar
with how this works on other websites, there is no need for this awkwardness.

You can simply make it as smooth as all other threads ---

"MISSING" . . . ????

What's that all about . . . ???

13. Not individual replies, just the OP.
In "my DU", you then need to click on the OP, not on your reply. If you click on your reply, it is missing. If you click on OP, it will go to locked thread, with link to new placement.

11. Meh
people who post whacky conspiracy threads in GD SHOULD have to do a little extra work. It's the price you pay for lunacy.

12. You're making clear that you support . . .
censorship at DU --

But, the only "whacky conspiracy threads" around here are astonishingly based on official administration lies ---
often called "coincidence theories" . . .

and do you support making some subjects taboo at DU --- ???

17. Censorship means creating "taboo" subjects . . .
Why not just let INTEREST in a subject guide its popularity or lack thereof?

CT threads belong in the Dummy Dungeon, aka 911 Forum.

16. agreed
And I hate those combined with another thread messages. I usually don't click the link because that will cause me to lose the current latest discussion page. I don't have much time that I can spend here so I start at the bottom of the latest thread and work my way up. Click on an internal link and I get a whole new latest discussion page

18. So the method of sidelining the thread by declaring it "MISSING" ... adds up to a disconnection ---
I think we need a more honest approach to these subjects which, actually, usually have high
perticipation --- and often very favorable and high participation.
