If you have not seen today's video of Issa getting gaveled into silence by the Honorable
Rep. Henry Waxman, Chairperson, House Oversight Comm., that is where to start:

Waxman Threatens to Kick Issa Out of Hearing Room
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x135034

Be sure to click FIVE STARS over at YouTube too for this one.

1. Issa is known as a major contributor/co-conspirator in the 2003 recall election of Governor Gray Davis.

2. Issa is known as a major LIAR in the USA Carol Lam firing. Wonder why? Here is a timeline:

USA LAM FIRING TIMELINE:

May 5, 2006 - CIA director Porter Goss resigns unexpectedly.
May 10, 2006 - Lam notifies DoJ she planned to serve search warrants on Kyle Foggo, who resigned two days earlier as No. 3 official at the CIA.
May 11, 2006 - Kyle Sampson e-mails deputy White House counsel William Kelley, re "the real problem we have right now with Carol Lam ....
May 11, 2006 - LA Times reports Cunningham probe expanded to include CA Republican, then-House Appropriations Committee Chairman Jerry Lewis.
May 12, 2006 - FBI agents seizes records from Foggo's CIA offices and his suburban Vienna, Va.
May 18, 2006 - Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) provides false information to AP that Lam has prosecuted only 6% of 289 suspected immigrant smugglers.

3. Issa is a bomb disposal technician, albeit he did not show his skills today!!

4. Issa is one of the richest members of the House, gaining his fortune from car alarms. "Please step away from the car" is his voice.

5. Issa blew $12 million of his personal wealth (and $400K in contributions) for the nomination for Boxer's US Senate seat, and was defeated in the primary.

6. Issa was elected Rep. in 2000. In 2002, the Democrats failed to field a candidate in his 2nd most Republican district in CA, second to Orange Co.

7. Issa contributed over $1.6 million to help fund a signature-gathering drive for the petition to recall Gray Davis.

8. Issa intended to place himself on the ballot to replace Davis, withdrew, then even suggested voting against the recall.

9. Issa has traveled to Lebanon and Syria in an effort to negotiate the end of the Syrian occupation of Lebanon.

10. Issa has been called "Jihad Darrell", charged with sympathizing with Hezbollah.

11. Issa experienced an aborted Jewish Defense League plot in 2001 to bomb his district office in San Clemente.

12. Issa, a reputed car thief, allegedly stole a Dodge sedan from an Army post near Pittsburgh.

13. Issa and his brother allegedly stole a red Maserati sports car from a car dealership in Cleveland.

14. Issa was convicted in Michigan for possession of an unregistered gun.

15. Issa and his brother allegedly faked the theft of Issa's Mercedes Benz sedan, and were charged for felony auto theft. Issa accused his brother.

16. Issa stated that he takes "maybe one-twentieth" of the responsibility for Lam's firing.

17. Issa testified at the March 6, 2007, United States House Committee on the Judiciary hearing. (Statement of Congressman Darrell Issa http://judiciary.house.gov/OversightTestimony.aspx?ID=764)

18. Issa said, in April 2008, that the federal government "just threw" buckets of cash at New York for the September 11 2001 attack.

19. Issa was shut up today by Rep. Henry Waxman!!

20. Issa may be defeated in November.

and his dyed hair/hairpiece.

Truly a hateful, egomaniacal right-wing tool.

4. Darrell Issa's Software Error = "frequent critic of Chairman Henry Waxman"
Darrell Issa's Software Error
http://www.motherjones.com/mojoblog/archives/2008/03/7814_darrell_issas_s.html

During a House Oversight Committee hearing last month on the preservation of White House records, an indignant Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), a frequent critic of Chairman Henry Waxman's investigations, did his best to play down the extent of the Bush administration's now well-documented email archiving problems. Defending the White House's decision to switch from the Lotus Notes-based archiving system used by the Clinton administration, Issa compared the the software to "using wooden wagon wheels" and Sony Betamax tapes. To observers of the missing emails controversy, Issa's comments seemed little more than an attempt to deflect blame from the White House for replacing a working system for archiving presidential records with an ad hoc substitute. But to IT professionals who use Lotus at their companies, Issa's remarks seemed controversial, if not downright slanderous. .....

Any enemy of Darrell Issa (BUSH JUNTA waterboy) is a friend of mine

Issa's H.Res.965 = Condemning the actions and statements of Venezuelan president Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias.
2/7/2008--Introduced.

Expresses support for the Venezuelan people and their continued democratic self-governance. Calls upon the Chavez government to immediately implement measures to stop Venezuelan territory and weapons from being used as resources by terrorist organizations.

Edited on Tue May-20-08 08:03 PM by calipendence
Having a bumper sticker on my car saying "Issa, please don't steal my car"...

I think I might have put this idea online someplace at the time... Well, right before I went ahead with this and right after their first San Diego fires, my car DID get stolen, right in front of my fricken house! Probably not connected, but I wasn't wanting to tempt fate in case it was, on my subsequent car! :P

13. You left out the incident that heavily points to him guilty of arson and insurance fraud in 1982
Edited on Tue May-20-08 07:58 PM by calipendence
He also recently got pulled over in 2001 for speeding 90 MPH (even though he owns Viper, the car alarm company) and tried to get off by showing his congress ID card as if the officer was supposed to "bow" to him...

Here's DailyKos's timeline of his BS history...

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/1/14/145836/417

Some notable additions to your list:

...

1982: "Issa seizes control of car alarm business from owner and founder Joe Adkins who had single-handedly built it into a million dollar a year business. After interrogating the company's bookkeeper about its finances and those of Adkins, ("The bookkeeper, Karen Brasdovich, said Issa had grilled her about Adkins' finances, including his late payment of bills. Only later, she says, did she suspect that Issa may have then used that information to seize the firm. "He picked my brain. It really bothers me to this day that I fell for that," she said." LA Times 5/23/1998)
Issa offers Adkins a $60,000.00 loan. Later when the loan is due, Adkins asks for "a few more weeks" to repay, Issa agrees then quickly seizes Adkins' business the following day in a court proceeding of which Adkins was not notified."

1982: "Issa raises fire insurance on business he has legally, but unethically, stolen (see above) from $100,000.00 to $460,000.00. During the weekend just before it mysteriously burns down Issa is seen in the company building several times. He removes blueprints and records from the company safe, along with a key computer. The company building then burns down. One of Issa's brothers (believed to be William) is observed to have hair singed on one arm. Insurance investigators suspect Issa is responsible for the arson. ("An unexplained note was typed at the bottom of a state fire marshal's lab request: `RUSH--Have suspect or conspiracy.'" (LA Times 5/23/1998)
A firefighter was seriously, almost fatally, injured fighting this blaze. An out of court settlement is reached. (Note: Since the statute of limitations has expired Issa is free to release terms of this settlement to his constituents.) (LA Times 5/23/1998)"

December 2001: "Issa refuses orders from a uniformed US Border Patrol agent in a marked government car with the light bar and siren activated to slow down from 90 MPH. When the agent pulls Issa over, Issa whips out his Congressional ID and states "I'm Congressman Darrell Issa and this is my area." Issa argues with the officer and later has his staff try to imply that the incident probably never took place and that if it did occur, it was politically motivated. Source: North County Times April 26, 2002."

...

33. Register voters! And check up on your election boards. Are they purging voters?
If so, use that list to re-register them.

Another strategy is analysis of where there are non-voters.
Some precincts have low registration and low voting rates. Low hanging fruit, as return on time invested goes!

Avenging Angel - Apr 04, 2008 - http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/4/4/164527/6100/884/490329

Darrell Issa's (R-CA) stunning statement reducing the 9/11 attack on the United States to a "simple" plane crash is just the latest outrage from the execrable California Republican. After all, the one-time accused car thief turned car alarm magnate attacked the families of dead Blackwater contractors, accused Valerie Plame of perjury and played a vital role in purging a U.S. attorney, just to name a few others. Yet less than five years after he cried like a baby while announcing his withdrawal from the California governor's race, Darrell Issa mysteriously remains a force in American politics.

Here, then, are the Top 10 Moments from Darrell Issa's Hall of Shame:

Kevin Yamamura - October 22, 2007 - http://www.sacbee.com/102/story/447954.html

Two Republican political consultants are trying to revive an initiative to change how California's electoral votes are tallied in next year's presidential election, seeking support from major GOP donors including Rep. Darrell Issa, who helped finance the 2003 gubernatorial recall.

Sacramento-based consultant Dave Gilliard, an Issa adviser, is spearheading an effort to collect at least 600,000 more signatures by mid-November for an initiative that would divvy up California's electoral college votes by congressional district.

Ozone standard squeezing BR
GERARD SHIELDS - May 25, 2008 - http://www.2theadvocate.com/columnists/washingtonwatch/19239519.html

........

“On the evening before the final rule was released, President Bush rejected the unanimous recommendation of both EPA’s experts and Administrator Johnson and instructed EPA to abandon the new standard,” Waxman said.

U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Cal., served as the ranking Republican member at the committee hearing. As it pertains to the president’s action, Issa responded that Waxman’s assessment was partially right.

No doubt existed that President Bush intervened on the standard, Issa said. But he had the right to do so as the president ....

Calling a hearing to lambaste the president and the EPA smacked of “raw politics” itself from the Democratically-controlled committee, Issa said.
